The commandment to not kill is actually,'Thou shall not murder'. If you are a soldier and you have been ordered into combat you are under an annointing to bring justice if your cause is just. Wars are fought because because people do not know what is just and what isn't. During wars people pray for God to intervene. Many miracles happen on the battlefield because people are praying for justice. Police are under the same annointing to bring justice. If people abuse this authority then prayer will cause God to intervene. Jesus taught that the only unforgivable sin was to blaspheme the Holy Spirit. This means to claim the work s of the Holy Spirit are of the devil.

Many people make the mistake of believing the Bible says, “You shall not kill,” and seek to apply this command to war. However, the Bible actually says, “You shall not murder” (Exodus 20:13). The Hebrew word literally means “the intentional, premeditated killing of another person with malice.” God often ordered the Israelites to go to war with other nations (1 Samuel 15:3; Joshua 4:13). God ordered the death penalty for numerous crimes (Exodus 21:12; 21:15; 22:19; Leviticus 20:11). So, God is not against killing in all circumstances, but rather only murder. War is never a good thing, but sometimes it is a necessary thing. In a world filled with sinful people (Romans 3:10-18), war is inevitable. Sometimes the only way to keep sinful people from doing great harm is by going to war with them.

"Thou shalt not kill." pertains to murder, ie, taking a person's life for unjust reasons. A person may kill in self defense. A person killing in war is not murdering. This is illustrated very clearly in scripture. God tells the Israelites to wipe out the people of the promised land, men, women, and children. This is warfare and killing is justifiable in that situation.
Some use this to imply that there is a contradiction between the Commandments and things like this in the Bible, but there is no contradiction in this. Like all things that people call contradictions, it's a matter of the person not understanding what's going on and the accurate understanding of the truth.

No one really listens to the 10 commandments, why do you think the New Testament was created? The old series of the show got old basing itself around the same plot: "God" creates, people sin, "God" destroys...how boring.
I hear they went on to make many more episodes and now have a lot of fans but that the star of the 2nd half of the show was killed off and hasn't been seen since...says he's coming back...I think it's all a hoax; the director never even made a single interview.

The actual word for kill is murder. Killing is not necessarily murder. If someone was going to kill my family and I had the opportunity to kill him first, that would not be murder, now would it? No. Even the law of our land has something called, "justifiable homocide".
Murder is based on selfishness, greed, vengeance, convenience, but never on justice or self defense. Make sense?
Only one unforgivable sin - blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, which is when the Spirit of God calls one to salvation and one denys or refuses Him, unto death, there is no redemption and no turning back. All other sins are forgivable to those who have said "Yes!" to God and repent of all sin.

Soldiers do not kill, they are comitting an act of self defense.
They are defending their country and their people.
The only unforgivable sin is the sin of unbelief.
If you do not believe that Jesus is the Son of God who became man, suffered and died for you and rose on the third day, and you die, then your sins will not be forgiven and you will not be in heaven.

The literal answer is Yes.
The Commandment does not say "Thou shalt not kill, except when....". And as for the distinction between murder and killing in battle, that is a legal distinction (IMO) not an ethical one.
And yes, the one unforgivable sin is allegedly suicide, because that act suggests a loss of faith in God's mercy.

Murder is murder, what ever the reason. I think the only unforgiven sin is sex with an animal. In all seriousness.
