Sister, do you really think this is the best place to ask? Only you and perhaps your instrumental teacher can answer that.

Many oboists started off as clarinet players. Oboe takes a special ear, and lots of work. There is usually only one, or two in a high school/junior high band. The sound is very unique and can be heard very well. So, you'll be the star of the show! A lot of people feed off of that, and a lot of people are scared by that too. As an oboist, you'll spend a lot of time with reeds. Making reeds, buying reeds, fixing reeds. Reeds make the oboe sing. I thing you should listen to some professional oboe cd's (or iTunes whatever), and see if you love that sound or not. You can find some videos on youtube of people playing oboes and clarinet. Just remember, some of them are bad at both... so don't judge the instrument by the bad playing! You can usually hear the oboe on every movie soundtrack, or in every symphony. If you live in a city with a professional orchestra, ask to talk to the oboe, or clarinet players, they'd be glad to hear from you. Or, just go to a concert and see. It can be a fun hobby, or a fun career... but any music is rewarding! Best of luck.

i could advise the clarinet or the flute- the two are quite elementary study. playing those instruments first permit you to learn the popular skills had to play different, extra unique wind instruments. the two certainly one of those elementary instruments are additionally particularly low-fee, costs selection from $2 hundred-$600 for any beginner sort. Clarinet fee approximately $10 for a field, till they seem to be a extra sophisticated sort (like vandorens.) average, the alternative between those 2 is surely up on your own determination. Flute has an superior octave/sign in, clarinet can bypass decrease. Flute is extra good to music, yet much less complicated to regulate with the aid of embochure (extra helpful vibrato). i does not advise oboe for any beginning up wind participant, by way of fact the tone isn't elementary to administration, and the embochure is extremely complicated. i could advise playing yet another study device, like the clarinet, earlier taking on the double-reeded oboe. apart from, Oboe's have a tendency to be extra costly. Their reeds on my own are uncomplicated to be expensive. in spite of the undeniable fact that, i'm no longer combating you from exploring your musical skills. i understand some people who performed oboe as their first device, and that they are doing nice. i've got continually cherished the sound of the oboe, so in case you quite need to, you may ;) wish you come across ur instrment xD

The fingerings are similar, but the embouchure is VERY different. Will take some getting used to, but you can do it!
