What should America do about this war in the middle east?

There is no such thing as a "war on terror". It's just a slogan for the weak minded and easily led. Terror is a mental state and terrorism is a tactic. One can make war on neither.

I think what the next President, or even this President, although its probably unrealistic, is set up a bipartisan comission to research where we are as well as the future of the War on Terror, what we can do in Iraq and Afghanistan to both help the people establish stable governments and security and also get us out of there as quickly as practically possible. And also to analyze our role in the Middle East as it relates to the War on Terror, like should we be over there or should we focus more on domestic security. A bi-partisan group of open minded people, with many different opinions, from the public and private sector, military, and academia.

It's difficult to bring a system of democracy, where there is no caste system, to a people who have nothing but a caste system to govern. Rulers or constitutions have nothing to do with it. It all comes down to how its people think. Unfortunately, Middle Eastern countries and people believe in a heavy caste system and total control. You cannot bring democracy to a people who don't want it, the same reason why you can't bring monarchy to a people who don't want it.
It's important for Americans to keep the Middle East stabilized because of the resources and people. The resources because oil is something the who world, democracies and other, need. We need to be there to protect the people, ours and theirs as well.
Therefore, we let who wants out of the country out and maintain the shipment of oil. Once oil is no longer a necessary commodity, once we create cars and power plants that don't need it, we get out and watch them fight. The only way that democracy can come to them is if they fight and figure out who are the rulers and who's the subject or they fight, figure out war is just a dead end, and mature enough to adopt other ideas.

Keep fighting them where they are instead of letting them come to us. I personally don't really care if Iraq or the Afghans ever get their act together and become a real democracy (although that would be a plus). What is important is that we keep the pressure on them on their own turf. They do not have unlimited resources and they cannot afford to loose in the Middle East so they will keep throwing jihadists at us, better there than here. It has been proven time and again that the jihadist types do respect strength and have contempt for what they perceive as weakness.

huh......The only thing I could possibly think off is split the middle east up into smaller countries for each tribe. Give the kurds, palenstines, etc. their own country. The midddle east has had conflict since the beginning of time. There is no simple solution. Israel is another problem and the shia extemist.., also the turks and the kurds. There probably is no solution

There will be plenty of time to think about that question.

We will probably have US servicemembers in the middle east for the next 50 years.

create stronger alliances with other countries, especially those in the region, so that we can reduce the need for military resources. the military definitely plays a huge role in the war on terror, but it needs to be complemented with strong, cohesive diplomacy on a worldwide scale.

We should see it through till the end. It will always be those that back down that have problems come back to them. Those that stay strong are rewarded in the long run.

War on terrorism must be intensified so that no violence will be sowed in the American heartland.
