Did you pull down on the 2 handles after you screwed in the corkscrew? That'll bring up the cork.

Shoot yourself! Unable to get into a wine bottle. Life is over anyway. I couldn't think of anything worse!

Try a knife handle. Be very careful though. Push the cork into the bottle. This will leave some of the cork in the wine but it's better than staring at the cork stuck in the neck of the bottle and not drinking any of it!

Don't maul it or your wine will be full of cork. Put the cork screw in at a SLIGHT ANGLE, and then prop the arm against the rim of the bottle. Gently push until the cork gives a bit, then you can use full pressure; pull it the rest of the way out. If it's a synthetic cork, sometimes they can be slippery and in that case you have to make sure the screw is in all the way.

Foolproof opening wine bottle only with a towel (recommended only for white wine):

First of all get a strong guy, second push cork just a bit to unstuck it, then get the strong guy to wrap up his hand in the towel and pound the bottom of the bottle until the cork pops half way out. The pull it out with out twisting because you risk to break it.

I opened dozens of bottle this way but I think there is a safety risk so do be careful.

Are you sure it's not a screw off???? lol Seriously, try twisting it back and forth and pulling up as you do. If not and all else fails try picking out the cork as much as possible and then push the darn thing in. Desperate measures for sure, but if it gets the wine out.......who cares..

If, you have a hypodermic needle or meat baster is best. Pull back the plunger and stick the needle through the cork and then shoot some air pressure into the bottle then pull on your cork screw.

if all else fails, put a dime on the cork and tap it down with a hammer, just don't hit the bottle

Ditch that fancy pants corkscrew. Get yourself a $5 bartenders tool.
