I'm an American citizen and my boyfriend is a UK citizen - I want to know how we could go about getting married, the forms needed, if it'd be easier to do in one country rather than the other, which one would be possibly the less expensive route or easier, how long it will take, maybe even some websites or anything to refer to me to for guidance or anything else on a serious note - would be much appreciated. Thank you

From experience, the quickest way is for the American to travel to the UK, marry there then file the petition to return with the spouse. 99% of the time, they let the two of you return asap with no problems.

If the UK citizen comes to the US with a fiance visa... etc... then the petition is filed, it can take up to 2 years. I've even seen it where they make the UK citizen LEAVE while the petition is being processed.

To marry in the UK you need a fiance visa which you can get from the nearest British consulate or from the British Embassy. The doccuments you need depend on where you and your new husband plan to live. If you are both going to live in the UK he will have to provide evidence that he can provide you with a place to live and can support you.
If you like he can visit America using the visa waiver and you can both just get married here but he will have to leave the country afterwardsthough he could apply for a spousal visa with you and you can travel back to the UK together. The whole visa process for an American moving to the UK is a lot faster than for a Brit moving to the USA.
If you both want to live in America, you either apply for a K-1 visa and he comes to America to marry you or you get a fiancee visa, marry him in the UK then leave him there for at least six months while you apply for a K-3 visa with him.
If you both want to live in the UK the process is easier and cheaper though in both cases the citizen has to prove he or she can support the foreign spouse.
Look online for a website called British Expats, there were some guides there on moving to the UK with an American partner, otherwise Visa Journey is a website with information on moving a foreign partner to the USA.

It really doesn't matter. All you need to get married are your birth certificates and IDs. A marriage in one country will be recognized in the other.

Apply for a marriage license by presenting your birth certificates and necessary documents from the US Embassy in UK.
