You probably will need to take him to the vet and get a good dental cleaning and then keep his teeth brushed. The vet will tell you what kind of tooth paste you will need to use and how often you will need to brush them.

As everyone else said try brushing his teeth.
However, this can be a hard task with a lot of dog, so maybe you could buy him tarter treats? There are many different varieties and they're not physically called tarter treats. They're hard dog biscuits that help clean your dog teeth when they eat them.
My dog has them and she has really clean teeth!
Oh, and also because you have a small dog make sure you get the treats for the small dogs, or else you'll be left with a box of biscuits your dog can't chew up because her teeth aren't strong enough.

I'd suggest you take your poodle the vet to have him checked out, bad breath can also mean other diseases! So dont brush his teeth by yourself cause you need some special toothpaste, the toothpaste we use can be VERY harmful to dogs

check his teeth and gums for a build up of brownish stains and redness in his gums.if he has this get some dog toothpaste and a brush or finger brushes and start cleaning his teeth everyday and it will help his breath.these small breeds do have a problem with their teeth all 3 of mine did. start brushing them now and it will really help.use a soft rag if he hates the brush.they will be pearly white in no time and his kisses will be a lot sweeter.good luck

It sounds like he needs a professional cleaning at the vet. They can get up under the gums and clean out all the tartar that causes odor.

Take him to the vet for a dental.
(Teeth checked for problems and cleaned of tartar, if necessary).
Makes all the difference in the world.

In addition to the comments about his dental hygiene, it could also be his food. What are you feeding him. I don't think a dry kibble diet would do that, but other things could.

Besides his food and teeth cleaning, he might have rotton teeth that may need pulled.
The vet would know for sure so you really should take him.
