There is often conflict but some areas are more prone and it may look small on a map but there is a lot of land. So I would say research the areas that interest you. I would go anyway. There are areas that are locked so people can't travel into Israel. Also Palestine residents can't travel into Israel. I am not sure how that works but I guess the biggest threat was from there. They have done a lot to protect the country at the same time there is always risk. There is less a risk of people coming to do suicide bombings due to the security measures in place.
I would not let the opportunity slip, as you never know what tomorrow holds.

I have a lot of family in Israel and I've been there a few times.
Answer: Depends on what part of the country you plan on going to. If you plan on going to Jerusalem, it's actually one of the safest places to be, especially if you're Jewish. *Our family is* The amount of armed police and soldiers makes it one of the safest places to be for a Jew.
Northern Israel is a totally different story though. It's not hell on Earth, but you do need to be aware that there is a never ending war going on. If anything does go on while you're there, even if you're on the street, there are places to go to be safe. Most restaurants have shelters again rocket attacks and there are often stations with temporary gas masks.
Go, have fun and learn, it's not that bad.

I have never been to Israel (or the Middle East), but from TV newscasts about violence in New York City and L.A. and Miami, it is probably safer in Israel. After all, all of their citizens get to serve in the military (women included) and they WILL shoot the bad guys, unlike here in the States where bad people are rewarded.

is that the only reason why u want to go because the men are gorgeous and make good husbands? how very selfish and shallow of you. how about go there so you can see where God's chosen people came from and where Jesus walked amongst us and was crucified for your sins.
