A few years ago I jammed my 3rd and 4th vertabre in my lower back. Now I have occassional back pain, but when I do it's so bad that I can barely stand up. I have been to the doctor, and chiropractor for it. Can someone tell me give me some advice what more I can do for it, besides workout to strengthen the muscles around it, and take medication to mask the pain?

I do not know what you mean by "jammed", but I have 4 herniated discs in my lower back, scoliosis, arthritic spurs, the works. Pain medication is very ineffective; the body becomes used to it and to achieve any relief you would have to take higher and higher concentrations. In my case, they gave me a duodenal ulcer and caused internal bleeding. Medication is the only thing doctors ever did; they did suggest surgery, but I am still capable of reasoning, so I declined.
Laymen have suggested swimming in the ocean for relief (I don't swim and the beach is a L - O - N - G ways away.
I walk as much as I can and do exercises. When I can't stand as high as my wife (she is 9" shorter than I), I will lie on my back on the floor and slowly try to lie flat until I receive relief. Hot showers help; Bengue (Ben Gay nowadays) and other such topical ointments help.
The doctors told me that I had weak muscles, that is why I had pain. I can still lift more weight than what I weigh, so I disregarded THAT "advice" also.
If what I do does not work for you, try different things to find out what works for you. Doctors (at least the ones I see) really don't care; they are after the money.
As to exercise, I also have arthritis throughout my body; arms, elbows, hands, hips, knees, feet, as well as numerous other health problems (COPD with chronic bronchitis, for instance). So, if I can walk and excercise...

A lot of times low back pain can be fueled by tight hamstrings. I do a series of exercise every day to keep my hamstrings stretched. This has helped me quite a bit. Look up different websites to find some exercises . Good luck.
