31/12/99 we walked over to the town in the pouring rain for a candlelight vigil but because of the weather we were the only ones there! Undeterred we walked back through the fields and along with some others ,lit huge fireworks(other half horrified I had them in my handbag with my lighter) and then as we approached our gate,a neighbour called out 'happy new year' and we invited her in for a drink. Within 15 minutes , there were about 20 people here and then we went outside again and joined in a 'conga' which snaked all over the estate. By morning, I discovered my neighbour and myself had drunk 1xlitre and 1x bottle of whisky-neither of us had a hangover !!
Later that day I learned we were a year early and we'd have to do it all again in a year 's time as 2000-2001 was the right date but I was working afternoons that day so glad we celebrated when we did.
Your hair looks much better since that Riggs guy shot the apple off the top!!

There was a row about that (about which was the millennium, not about where I was)
For the first celebration I was at a street party In Bury St Edmunds, with a wine dispenser built into my shoulder bag, and cat's eye contact lenses. (Is this the right planet for the millennium?)

For the second I was at a big celebration on the streets of Toronto, (at about -10) with a 20 ft Dr Who scarf on. And a deerstalker.

On December 31, 2000?

I was sitting at home celebrating the dawning of the new millenium and laughing at the idiots who celebrated it on December 31, 1999, a year early.

Since there was no year 0, the first millenium was 1AD - 1000AD, inclusive.

That means the second was 1001AD to 2000AD... and the third started January 1, 2001.

Well I was living on my own then Bex - in between marriages! - so I went with friends round one of their boyfriend's house and he and his neighbours from about 6 houses all got together in the 'square' around which the houses were built. Are you keeping up?!!!!! We had a hog roasting, lights, booze, fireworks the lot and it was a brilliant night. The weather was bright and crisp and I couldn't have spent it in a better way out in the open - well it would have been nice to have my now hubby with me lol !!!!!
