You will need to precook your potatoes as they will take longer than the chicken I would allow about 45 minutes in a 350 degree oven.

if you want to cook the chicken properly then sear it in a hot pan, to seal in the juices, then transfer the pan into the oven if it doesn't have a rubber handle and doesn't have non stick coating on it. chicken breast are cooked in restaurants with this method. i wouldn't bother with the whole tin foil idea because it isnt really necessary. never cut into the chicken to see if it is done.. press on the meat if it feels firm but not hard then take it out.. use your judgment. allow the chicken a good 10 mins to rest before slicing into it so that you dont have a juice mess all over your plate. the potatoes should be par cooked then transfered onto a baking sheet to finish cooking. best of luck!.

Me personally I would cut up my potatoes, chicken and an onion. Toss them in a baggy with a packet or two of Lipton's onion soup mix and oil. Make a tinfoil packet and pour the chicken.potatoes & onion in. Bake at 300 for about 45 mins.
If you cook at a higher temp it will take less time, but your chk may dry out.
I like to throw in some corn. peppers and squash.(summer or zucchini)

salt and pepper the chicken and taters
wrap them all up in a bundle with a stick of butter with a tiny bit of cheap wine.
325 for an hour will do the trick.
we used to call this recipe Ghetto/HoBo/Pimp
because we would cook it in a wood fired barrel on cold nights drinking red rooster 21 AKA Kicking chicken at the boom boom(mardi gras)

I would cut up the taters because whole will take longer to cook than the chicken breasts. Don't want dry chicken breasts and hard spuds.
