Do you have an audio program? If so which one?
I have a 3 software drum machines that function as plugins.2 of them work on windows and mac,the other works in windows, only. You'll also need some samples to program them with. And it would help if you have a controller(pads get 1 for $50)but you can do it without, just a pain.I have over 15 gigs of royalty free samples.Send me an email if your interested,no charge for the samples or plugins.

To answer your question,I have been looking at virtual drummer,to run with PRO TOOLS,but it is at least $400 last time I checked.the next step down for reliabilty and and originality,is $300 at Guitar Center, but I can't remember the name of it right now. Also if you want to go real cheap, you could get a Yamaha keyboard at Guitar Center ($149+ taxes)
It comes with a decent library of beats.PLus you have the keyboard as well.
