muslim girl claiming discriminantion as not allowed to wear headscarf for hairdressing job

Ok lets play with this... how bout she can persue her case only when every muslim countiry stops discrimination against gays, lesbians and single unmarried couples and sexaully active single people.

Stops discriminataion against those who leave islam

Stops discrimination by brother and fathers and husbands inregards to who their daughters/sisters hang out with and date, not letting them date and even travel around freely unchaparoned.

How about the entire islamic worl stops any discrimination agains non virgin female teangers

And discrimination in the islamic world against playboy models, porn stars, pole dancers etc.

And any discrmination against guys and girls who are single and want to hang out as mates in the islamic world.
Discrimintaion against gay pride events.

And look at her hypocarcy where her head

headscarf is a symobol saying woemn should not show their hair especailly stylish hair and express their identiy with hair... Yet she coveres it up... where sthe logic in that.

Wherre she wants to be a hair dresser but claims with her scarf that hair dressed hair is immoral and against gods law.

Im sorry confused on that one

Horrified... good... that’s FGM Female Genital mutilation... or female circumcision

If you think it’s only the odd wacko individual who does this try these figures for size ... Source Amnesty International

These figures are the whole of the female population think how many millions that is.
Egypt 97% Clitoridectomy, excision, and infibulations
Ethiopia 90%
Nigeria 50%
Somalia 98% Infibulation
Virtually all Somali women are genitally mutilated. There is no law specifically prohibiting FGM.

And that's just a few.

Firstly islam is NOT a race.... any more then being a hiop hop fan or a Manchester united fan is.

You are not genetically muslim, you are not born that way, it is something you can help much like if parents were nazis you dont have to be one.

So as its voluntary just like being a nazi you can be judged by your groups policies as a whole as its deemed by joining them and increasing their numbers you support them as its giving them credibility.

Power and permission to be mean to jews.

Iran is still in primitive stage of human civilization.

2007-11-13 00:13:09 · answer #1 · answered by ? 7 · 0 1

If I understand you right, you believe she should be punished for the wrong doings of nations of which she holds no control?

Because some nations or groups have commited some human rights violations, she should be discriminated in a "free" country?

What power does she hold to change the government of Iran or Saudi Arabia? Its not as if they are the way the are because she refuses to give the nations permission to change.

Just because some abuse Islam, that does not mean those who peacefully follow their faith should be punished.

If she wishes to express her faith in a peaceful and non-harmful manner, she should be allowed to do so.

If you do not wish this to be the case, then you should be prepared to either outlaw all forms of religion, or some forms of religion, and be an intolerant society.

Should Christians not be allowed to wear the cross so long as Abortion Bombers continue to kill?

By the way, with all the reading you claim to be doing, I would imagine your grammer and spelling should be better.

EDIT: Complaining about porn stars and strippers being discriminated against by not being allowed to work in Muslim countries doesn't strengthen your argument much. So until Muslim countries want strippers, pornography, and prostitution to be seen as legitimate and respectable jobs, Muslim women should not be allowed to wear the headscarf? Wtf???

In any case, even in the US, all of these "professions" are looked down upon by society, and people fight very hard to keep such places out of their neighborhoods.

Perhaps you should practice what you preach, and not discriminate against billions of people.

Any culture or nation can look bad if you take 10 of the worst stories you can find, and say it represents that society.

EDIT AGAIN: I never realized how much more racist Britain was then the US. I hear some racist crap from my fellow Americans, but nothing compared to many of the British comments I read!

Not from the UK but USA where we also have many Muslims so believe I can answer this question.. The habib is part of a female religious Muslims dress & discrimination against anyones religious symbols should not be allowed..What'll be next to go,the Star of David?? Even in Israel Muslims can wear their habib & or burkah.. That said, the hairdresser was within her rights by not hiring this girl since all employees are required to have stlyish hairdos...Am wondering if the Muslim by going to a hairsalon was looking for problems? The article never said the hair salon operator didn't hire her for religious beliefs so was more than unfair she was fined.. Seems to me the courts were trying to placate the MANY Muslims in fear of trouble from the radical Muslims who're trying to take over the UK as well as the US!!! In US schools religion isn't taught in school which I agree with but Islam is taught & should be forbidden...

Adroitly manipulated exposure to the imagery of a whip cracking on a naked back and a veil enshrouding a woman’s face has led many to believe that the Shari’ah , the divine code of Muslim conduct, is in reality no more than a collection of values and practices that are primitive, uncivilized and barbaric. What to a Muslim is the object of his longing and endeavour has been very subtly projected as a relic from the dark ages which enslaves the woman and inflicts punishments on the criminal which are cruel, inhuman and degrading.

The Qur’an most certainly does prescribe corporal punishment for certain serious social crimes and it does lay down the principle of retribution, or qisas; it is very emphatic, too, about the crucial role of the family in human society and therefore insists on assigning different well-defined roles to men and women; and it does lay down many other regulations and laws and expects Muslims to obey the eternally valid injunctions of God and His Prophet.

But will these and similar provisions of the Shari’ah really plunge society back into darkness? Are they inhuman and barbaric? Are they an indicator of Islam’s inability to keep pace with the demands of human progress? The issues need to be examined seriously to determine the place and valued of the Shari’ah and its provisions in the ultimate order of human civilization and happiness. The need for this examination is especially acute in the view of the dogmatic position adopted by the West on these questions. A host of Western writers have said it, and the media continue to harp on the same theme: unless Islam is prepared to relent on these and other legal provisions of the Shari’ah ‘ there can and will be no accommodation; only a continuation of Western rejection of Islam’. Such vehemence makes one wonder whether the loud chorus about the Shari’ah, and such of its specific provisions as pertain to women and punishment, is in all cases the result of genuine misunderstanding and moral indignation, or whether the issue is merely being used by some as a whipping-boy to settle scores with Islam – old and new.

No apologies or excuses are needed to explain away or make acceptable to the West what has been so clearly laid down by the Qur’an and the Prophet in this regard and what has been so consistently accepted and adhered to by Muslims. There should be no place in dialogue with the West for such tortuous, self-deprecating arguments as: ‘polygamy is permitted, but the conditions of justice attached to it makes it effectively prohibited’. Or: ‘Corporal punishment is prescribed but hedged in with such unworkable requirements of evidence that it is virtually impossible to carry it out. Or, at least, it cannot be carried out unless an "ideal" just society is established, when it will in any case become unnecessary’.

Why those who advance this specious logic should think that God would lay down things which were impossible to practice is not made clear. As if He does not know how to say what He means, and say it clearly! Such excuses are unfair to the Qur’an and the Prophet, and an affront to their wisdom, and at the same time illogical and implausible to the unconvinced.

I'm just as confused as you, but about the structure of your question. It's hard to follow and your grammar leaves a lot to be desired.
But, for whatever I can gather, looks like you are against her claim as being discriminated, right?
First, you are all over the place. Any of the subjects you are siting has anything to do, whatsoever, with what she's claiming.
Second, we are not in any of those Islamics Countries.
Third, will you be Ok, if you were working at a Islamic Business and they would tell you that you were not able to wear a Cross, or aDavid Star, or the Image of the Virgin?
I don't think so, you'll be yelling bloody murder.
Finally, the ridiculous examples you are alluding to, are frowned at every religion or church, not just Islamic. get your facts together before posting a ludricous question as this one.

2007-11-09 11:55:57 · answer #5 · answered by Anonymous · 1 3

in this case i will have to say that i side w/ the hairdresser, because she has a point, if i were getting my hair done by someone i would want to know what their hair looks like and see how well, they do or don't do hair. even though i am muslim and i wear a hijab, i still feel this way because it only makes sense.

but i think you are wrong about everything else, because how/ when or if people in muslim countries discriminate against people has nothing to do w/ this woman trying to wear hijab in a non-muslim country that supposedly has religious freedom. but if you are in a "muslim" country and islamic law is the national law or even just social law, then you need to follow it. and being homosexual, fornicating, etc are all against islam. and i knwo muslims from muslim countries who for whatever reason practice these things and they all left, not because of persecution, but because that is the law and that is the way the people live and they don't need to change that.

and the hijab is NOT a fashion statement and it is not just for covering your hair, it is a way you carry yourself, w/ respect, not half naked for everyone in the world to see you, but instead to make people actually pay attention to you. i used to not wear hijab and i behaved the same way i do now that i wear it, but i have more respect now that i wear it. and it is a religious thing, nuns have something similiar and it is for modesty

EDIT:
what people do to punish others has nothing to do w/ islam, there are certain punishments in islam for certain acts but killing a 13 year old girl for having sex is not right. the punishment for fornication is 100 lashes(get hit 100 times) which doesn't kill you but it is so you learn your lesson. but the punishment for adultery is being stoned to death.

anyway, many muslims do not follow the sunnah and they participate in honor killings which have nothing to do w/ islam, they have to do w/ their ignorance. but there are many people of other faiths that do the same thing, i know hindus do it, i watched a special about it on national geographic. but i know it has nothing to do w/ hinduism, it has to do w/ their family name and wanting to preserve it, and killing their child is just a way to achieve that. which i personally find very disgusting, but that is just me

EDIT again:
many people of other faiths practice female genital mutilation, i saw that on national geographic too. but this practice is becoming less wide spread, because nowadays people know about the spread of disease, that it is cruel, and that it will have a permanent impact on the female, so most people no longer to it

if it's a muslim country then they can do whatever they want. this is a country of free religious belief. Here you can't stop someone from doing something just because you don't like it.

how about you stop acting like you know something about religion and go play with the rest of your white sheet wearing friends at the gun shop?

edit- maybe have read a lot about extremist Islam. But not every Muslim in the world is an extremist, in fact, most of them aren't. you hear more about them right now because they are the big bad guy in the media right now. In a few years we will have moved on to a new enemy and no one will care about the Muslims any more. A random skinhead in Britian will kill someone for looking at him the wrong way, there was a point in time when you'd hear that on the news often. it's not that skin heads have gone away, it's that the media now is covering those "evil muslims."

Some people being stoned in Iran doesn't have anything to do with a woman in LONDON trying to get a job. they are the same religion, but having the same religion doesn't make you the same people. I am not responsible for what random other people do and I should not be penalized for it. London is a place that is supposed to be up in the times, where people aren't treated differently for race or religion or other arbitrary things like that. she is right to sue and i support her for it.

I totally agree with you. She's gone for the wrong job and it is understandable the employer turned her down. She did not fit with the role/trendy surrounding. So what? She should get on with it!
Me and some friends are going for interviews these days and we had this conversation as to why we are not taken for jobs over other candidates: we obviously have the skills since we are appointed but when recruiters meet face to face, they want to see the personality, they want to see whether you are going 'to fit in' and the competition is fierce. We are white and WE just get on with it. Some white people also get 'discriminated' because they are fat or for whatever reason and don't go public about it!

Enough of these religious discrimination claims, we don't want to hear about them! Too much fuss.
