Nothing wrong with those engines. A LS1 aluminum v8 made by chevy is lighter and fits quite nicely between those strut towers. Just saying...

The VG30 engine is a great powerplant. The only issue was a recall on the fuel injectors on that engine from 1984- 1989 300ZXs. It was also used on the 1987-1988 200SX SE, 1985-1994 Maxima , 1987-1994 Hardbody trucks 1993-1998 Nissan Quest/ Mercury Villager, and 1987-1994 Pathfinders. If you're looking at a turbo, the 1984 Turbos had the little hood intake on the driver's side as well as a 50th Anniversary Edition available that is a highly sought after jewel. Other than cosmetic changes and a different turbo in 1987, they are the same VG30ET engines up until 1989. 1990-1996 Also used the VG30 but with variable valve timing. 24 valves (instead of the old 12 valves), and DOHC name as the VG30DE or VG30DETT on twin turbo models. 1996 is my favorite year because it was the only year that had the full rear lights with the rear spoiler on all models and the turbos had the blistered fenders similar to the 1984 50th Anniversary Turbo models. 1987 changed the front and rear ends .
