I got a puppy who was one of the older ones at the pet shop, he was 5 months when I got him... He wasn't really scared of me... But when I let my boyfriend try to hold him he got scared. The girl that was helping us said he was only used to females. Well, he is good with me, but he is really scared of my boyfriend. My boyfriend is a big guy, he's 6 foot 5, so he is kind of intimidating.

Whenever my boyfriend walks around the dog gets up and gets scared and like barks at him. And when he tries to pet him, the dog growls really bad. it never bites, just growls.

Please, Please!!! Help! My boyfriend is getting sick of it, and I really don't want to lose either one of them.

**To those of you who say I probably got a puppy mill dog, I DIDN'T. It just so happens that the breeder that gave the puppy to the nursery is my cousins husbands little brother and he does NOT run a puppy mill. SO there's no need for you to bash me for getting a puppy at a nursery.

The dog is 10 pounds, so it's small.

And also, I don't understand because the dog will take food out of his hand but other than that he is really scared of him... Thanks!!

Positive interaction. Have the boyfriend carry treats and every so often offer the pup a treat. Once the pup gets comfortable with approaching him with ease, then start attempting to pet him. If he growls, don't approach him/her any further. If it is a positive interaction, even if one pet is allowed, tell the dog it is good and offer a treat. Then have the boyfriend attempt to play with it with it's favorite toy. If that goes well, then offer it a treat. As soon as it turns into a negative interaction, say no then remove yourself from the situation. The dog must think fun and food when it thinks of your boyfriend. Eventually work the treat out of the picture and replace it with lots of pets and positive re-enforcement. It may take a while for it to be receptive to your boyfriend. Trust is hard to obtain but once given is a life time of loyalty. Good luck!

Well I put my self if your shooes but to be honest with you... have your bf give the dog food or treats to make the dog like him by thinkin ( hey the big guy is giving me food) plus my dog takes my b-f side because he does the same... so try that and just have him keep doing it until the dog gets used to being around your bf. I hope that works.

This sounds like possessiveness on your dog's part. Some dogs, especially small breeds, attach themselves to one person and they think that person is exclusively theirs. They don't want anybody else around because for them, that's their competition. That's what I believe is happening with your boyfriend. The dog is trying to "protect" you by barking and growling at him.

Sometimes dogs can sense a persons intentions. Is your boyfriend a good guy? I once had a boyfriend who was always barked at by dogs. He turned out to be a psycho abusive loser.

Honestly, dogs can sense things we humans can not. I have a dog that has been right about everyone of my ex-boyfriends. Honestly my last one turned out to be crazy after 1.5 years, hide it very well. But if your convinced that is not it. Try food and having him try and play with him. If he still doesn't like him listen to what your dog is telling you. I wish I had.

let your boyfriend enter room alone, just before the dog wants feeding and let your boyfriend feed him , then give him his food and move away dont try to go near food again until he has eaten, when he has finished your boyfriend can open door and let u in the room, kiss your boyfriend and then smooth the dog then your boyfriend can take dog for a walk.
let him know u are all loved equally and no one gets special treatment

Get rid of your boyfriend... The dog is barking for a reason.

I reckon you should get your BF to play with the dog. Make them spend a lot of time together.

Im awesome with dogs! Ok, you gotta breed your dog, make it relax, hen when he's not looking get your buyfriend and let him pet your dog, and give him treats so that the dog can eat it, eventually the dog will turn to find out who it is, when he turns its like a baby being born for the first time, the first person it looks at, it knows who it is and gets calm with them, so when he turns, fortunately he will love your boyfriend! Make sure when your dog really gets into your buyfriend, let your boyfriend play with him.
