I've tried a few over the years. Remember that the meds are just tools to help us cope. You have to sometimes seek out counseling as well. Now I take cymbalta. It does a nice job. Takes the edge off. There are many types out there and it's not a "one size fits all" type of medication. It may take a few different meds and dosages before it is right for you. Good luck to you.

The best depression medication for YOU may be different from what works best for ME. We each have a physical problem, and we may differ some in exactly what the brain is missing or what it will take to "fix it". Personally I have had great success with Zoloft. Others I have known have been successful with Paxil or Prozac. These are all prescription drugs - prescribed by a Dr., and then he works with you on adjusting the dosage to find what works best for you with the least amount of side-effects.
Everybody responds a little differently to a medication, and even your body may change as far as what and how much of it you need. This is why working with your Dr is so important.

the best is the one that works for you.
anyone with depression knows that they likely had to go thru two or three trials before they landed on the right one for them. But medication is only half the story, if you don't get therapy while taking the medication, you probably will not get better. The medication helps you to think clearly, but you still have to deal with the root issues that caused your depression in the first place, for that you need therapy as well. Suggest you consult a psychiatrist, based on your symptoms, a psychiatrist is often better at suggesting the correct medication than a general practitioner. He can also refer you to an appropriate therapist.

There are so many medications on the market to treat depression and sometime it can take trying several different ones before you find the one that is right for you. Your doctor will base the medication that is right for you based on the severity of your depression, your age, length of depression, etc. There are many factors, but when and if you start on a medication your doctor will go over the side effects, etc. Just make sure to take them regularly and give them time to work, it can take weeks for it to build up in your system for you to notice the effects. Some that I've heard of people using are celexa, paxil, wellbutrin, the list could go on and on, your doctor will go over them with you. Good luck!

Avoid medication. Remember depression is normal for everyone. In one's life, there has always been a disheartening moment. Try daily exercise like jogging, swimming, walk on a treading mill.

If still not cured, then see a psychiatrist, (not physician), for his or her experience in picking the right tablet for you. After that visit, you may not ever require tablets to cure because by then you may realise that depression is in the mind and ways of thinking and able to regulate your thought in a better way. Tablets used only when warranted.

Effexor worked for me.
Abilify worked well for a friend.
Paxil helped another friend but did nothing for me.

the truth is, you may have to try a few for 6 to 8 weeks each to see if it helps you.

A healthy diet, proper rest and exercise. It may take a few months for your body to make the physiological adaptations needed for you to feel better, but its worth it.
