Do you feel that a lay-off is ever justified?
How did you feel? Do you resent your former company and/or boss?

Thanks, but I think we're safe. . . so far.
A business must protect itself, just like an individual. It's nice to read that some people understand that.
Unfortunately, some people think that companies are morally obligated to continue to employ people for life, regardless of their lack of contribution.
OK, I feel better now that I got THAT off my chest. LOL :)

Lay-offs can be justified, if the employer is being honest about it.
An honest, sincere lay-off happens, when an employer notices their business is not doing as well as it previously was, and as a result, the amount of employees he had before, is no longer justifiable.
As a result, they'll lay people off, and retain only what's necessary to remain in business.
Alternative ways of handling this, include cutting hours, so that 4 people working 40 hours, now will work only 20 hours, as opposed to laying off 2 people.
the thing is, 2 people get laid-off, and 2 people get their hours cut in half... well, the thing is... the 2 people who got their hours cut, will probably have to look for another job also, cuz they want/need the 40 hours of pay each week that they were accustomed to getting paid each week.
You shouldn't resent your former employer, they're only doing what's best for the company. Leave politely, ask for a good recommendation, and above all, do not burn your bridges. It's not uncommon for business who lay people off to call on those same people to still if they're still available, or available again, should business pick up again.

I have never been laid off. I got fired once from a restaurant when I was 16, after I ate too much free food and one night broke all the dishes, not to mention dropped some hot soup on a customer earlier that day LOL...Back then I felt that it was perfectly justified.
If I got laid off today, I would logically understand the business aspect of it. But my confidence would take a slight hit for being the one that wasn't valuable enough to be let go. I'm sure I would feel resentment for their lack of appreciation and what I have invested in the company so far, but that's what rejection does.
Do we need to send you a security team for protection while some changes are being made? LOL

Both my wife and I were laid off from the same company, at different times.
Quite frankly, I felt her being laid off was a good business decision. She was laid off in the first round and they were clearing out the less needed jobs and poor performs. She fit into that catagory.
I felt my being laid off was an idiotic decision, as I dealt directly with the customers and they had no one to replace us. The customers had no one to help them for months afterwards until they reorganized.
How did I feel? I was numb. I couldn't believe it. It came with no warning for me. At least for the wife there was warning that lay-offs were coming.
I did not resent my company, but I did resent our CEO for an idiotic decision and my boss who led us down the rosy path we were on, only to be let go later on. Our whole department was terminated, yet she somehow managed to transfer to a different department.
Now here's the good side of the story. After goofing off for almost 3 months on my severance pay, I got a job that is easier to do, that pays nearly twice as much.

Never, thankfully. Even if you feel resentment, best to not burn your bridges.
Layoff is never justified from the employee perspective, but from a co perspective, they need to make profit$$$ so if costs are an issue, reducing them via layoff in an overstaffed company is the only way to go, from their perspective.
Good Luck!

I have never been laid off, but the bank I work with was placed under PDIC receivership due to liquidity problem, thus all employees has been paid off a sum of money to start anew under new management.

don't experience undesirable. i grew to become into as quickly as laid off because of the fact i grew to become into reported for no longer donning a bra. (i grew to become into donning a strapless bra because of the fact i grew to become into donning spaghetti straps.) I worked for the State of Alabama on the time. Now for the actual reason I have been given laid off...it is even crazier is...My supervisor concept I had positioned a 'hex' on her. it isn't any shaggy dog tale. of course, she could no longer tell this to her superiors with regard to the hex ingredient (or they had understand she grew to become into bonkers) so she got here up with the 'bra ingredient'. That finished situation grew to become into the catalyst for my shifting out of Alabama (because of the fact I felt the lack of information grew to become into too great to undergo) and into New Orleans the place I had the terrific time that a guy or woman could desire to be allowed to have together as nevertheless being mortal. i got here across the appropriate job for me and if it wasn't for hurricane Katrina, i could nevertheless be there. In different words, I wasted numerous enery being disillusioned with my outdated boss while God, in his limitless wisdon, grew to become into only shifting me to the place i mandatory to be. existence is crammed with united statesand downs so have faith me when I enable you realize which you will locate something you adore in case you persist with your spirit.
