I work at the humane society and we always get our male cats fixed at about 5-6 months before they reach full maturity. They don't spray until they reach that point. If you get him fixed before he starts spraying he'll be fine but if you wait until after he starts spraying he'll always spray. Hope this helped.

Male cats sometimes spray to mark thier territory or when they are stressed by another cat that is introduced into the household. I have had many many male cats since I was a young child and it is my personal experience that kitties as young as yours generally don't spray. None of ours did and they were all neutered by 4 or 5 months.
Spraying occurs mostly in un-neutered males but it can occur in un-spayed females during mating season to attract a male. Neutered males can spray as well. This does not mean at all that your kitty will start spraying after he is neutered. It depends a lot on the personality of your cat.

Hi there...chances of spraying is decreased if neutering is done as soon as possible before sexual maturity is reached to ensure the problem does not become habitual in nature.
If you are located within the USA spay/neuter services can be provided for a very low fee (e.g. between $5-25) or for free in selected areas. Contact 1-800 SPAY USA http://spayusa.org to locate a participating shelter nearby you for the low fee/free neuter services.

Male cats usually never spray after getting fixed. When they do it is usually because of other cats in the house. If you have other cats, get another box and give him attention if he seems timid around other cats. It is a control issue.

Don't worry about it. He's not too young now to be fixed, so get him to your vet. After he is, once the hormones are out of his body, he shouldn't be doing it then. We have three neutered males, and none of them spray. It's the unneutered males you have to worry about.

If you have him neutered before he starts spraying, it should prevent him from starting to spray. If he has already started spraying, neutering usually will not help. Get it done ASAP.
