Oh wow, what a can to open.

The division in the Catholic Church resulting from the Second Vatican Council certainly is distressing, but it doesn't change the fact that the Church is still one, holy and apostolic.

In my very humble opinion, Christ meant what He said about Hell not prevailing over His Church.

That means even with a theoretical "bad pope" and an ambiguous council and rebellious bishops we still have the constant teachings intact. That also means that a Catholic is what a Catholic has always been - one who assents to the infallible and constant teachings of the Magesterium and remains in Communion with the bishop of Rome, the Pope.

It doesn't mean assenting to every word or action of the Pope.

It doesn't mean assenting to every word of Vatican II (it was pastoral, not dogmatic)

It doesn't mean attending this mass or that mass - both are valid (though the Tridentine is arguably more theologically rich)

Techniaccly, any sect who is not in union with Rome and the current structure of the Pope and the college of Bishops are not true Catholics. It is mandatory that in the Catholic Church you believe in the validity of the Pope, whoever that may be at the time. For instance, those who do not believe in the rules that Vactican II laid out are not true Catholics and are going against church doctrine.

I would say it is the Old Catholic Church, which dissented from the First Vatican Council over the issue of papal "infallibility". Things haven't been working quite right in Rome since 1874.

A so-referred to as "classic Catholic" is man or woman who tries to stay Catholicism in accordance to the way it became lived earlier the 2d Vatican Council, their needed concentration being the Latin Mass. it incredibly is a suitable determination presented for by using the Pope and the bishops of the Church, who've authorized Latin plenty in special cases and places, to accomodate those preferring it. regrettably there is an extremist faction who reject the instructions of Vatican II as invalid, and defy the authority of the Pope, interior the call of "custom". for sure those all people isn't classic in any experience, and surely at the instant are not any extra Catholic, considering that rejecting the authority of the Pope places one in schism from the Catholic Church. .
