This again, oh well. 1: Helmets, have not been proven to save lives. Ok that is a broad statement, but it close to the truth. While a helmet can maybe save your life, in a low speed crash. Helmets are rated to up to a 35mph impact, beyond that a helmet looses it's protectiveness. Note if a rider traveling at 25mph, hits a car head on going 25mph, that's a 50mph impact. Making a helmet not only worthless, but deadly. A helmet will compound the riders injury, possibly killing him or her. The methodology of studies that are pro helmet are suspect, due to their funding. Even the American Medical Association has stated, that they can't prove 100% that a helmet will save a life. They can only make a guesstimate, as to if it did or did not. 2: A helmet, will reduce injuries. This is true to a point. However a helmet will also once again, compound a riders injuries. A helmet will protect your head from very small rocks, bugs, rain and snow. A face shield will not stop a rock larger than a pebble, or a med size bird.A helmet doesn't do that great a job, protecting your hearing ether. 3: A helmet can make you less aware, of whats going on around you. A helmet does not obscure your vision a lot, it does obscure it. It can interfere, with a rider turning their head. It redirects a riders hearing downward, instead of to the sides. You hear more road noise and not the traffic next to you. Even a properly fit helmet, can be uncomfortable. This can lead, to distracted riding. First of all, riding is not a sport. Second, you can't shoe horn every sport in to a helmet, that is just plane stupid.
