Except for chili, to me it's a side dish. Food, but food I drink. Foup!!!

Soup is food. You eat it out of a bowl, with a spoon. Not in a cup with a straw. Sure, you could put soup in a mug, but most people don't. Some people drink the broth once all the hearty portions are gone, but that is also considered bad manners.

Food, it is filling and is great for munching on grilled cheese or having crackers too.

and a fruit soup is what?? a dessert??

soup can be made of anything and as thick or thin as you want it.

broths can be drunk from a cup, some fruit soups are drunk from cups.

Better question is: are soups a premeal appetizer, a main dish, a dessert or what?
