Basically, I am learning to cook and like to count calories. A bottle of oil has about 22% fat per serving. There are normally many more servings (32?). If you use a bottle or two while deep frying and say I deep fry catfish, how much of that fat goes into what I eat? Should I really care. I know I need to soak up all of that stuff but I usually don't. Have you guys thought about this?

Is it unhealthy to eat food that hasn't been dried off properly? Also, I have the same problem with cooking meat. I never can drain the grease properly and just end up with greasy food.

Honey, if you fry at the proper temperature, 350F, the fish will soak up about 1/8 teaspoon of oil for about 5 pounds of fish!!!

Also if you drain the fish off properly, on either paper toweling or brown paper sack, it won't have much residual oil on it at all.

Most of the oil I "use" gets spattered on the cabinet while I am frying, because I get in a hurry and let a bit of liquid get into the fryer!!!

You can always measure back. When the oil has cooled measure it back into the bottles. Then you will know more or less how much your food absorbed. But remember some will be on the walls of the fryer, the measuring cup, etc. as well as on the paper toweling.

deep frying is a really unhealthy cooking practice... there is a similar way to fry food. which is called shallow fat frying.. still unhealthy but less oil is absorbed into food.. if your just learning to cook then you should soon learn about combination cooking methods.. start food off in the oil and when its just starting to get brown take it out and finish in the oven.. or just cut the whole deep frying thing out.. you can do alot better by using better flavors and good ingredients.... counting calories is really pointless when your deep frying.. the best way to control your calorie intake is to control your portion size.
