What are twinkies?

I'm from England and I've always wondered what twinkies are cos we don't get them over here

Well, my dear here's how
you can make your own.
We did this when we were visiting
relatives in Scotland because,
we couldn't find anything even similar.
Using the tiny loaf pans that
are used for making
mini loaves of bread.
Make your Mum's best yellow
sponge cake,
pour this into the tiny loaf pans.
While they are baking,
this is what it takes for the filling:
5 cups of Confectioner's powdered sugar "10X",
this is the super fine sugar that
looks like dusting powder or corn starch.
3 Tablespoons best Banana
Liquor/Cordial that you can afford
(Banana Extract will do very nicely)
2 Tablespoon of whole milk
3/4 cup of solid shortening (all vegetable)
or 3/4cup of butter (unsalted)
Stir all of this together.
You may need to add a bit
of extra milk to make this
a bit more soft.
Place all of this into a pastry tube.
Set aside.
When the little cakes are done,
take them out,
let them rest before
turning them out onto wire racks.
Cool these on wire racks.
When they are completely cool,
turn them upside down,
using a demi-tasse spoon,
carefully scoop out the back.
Fill this with your
banana cream mixture
and replace what you scooped out.
Set aside for later.
Clean up all your cake
and pastry items.
Be sure to use plenty of hot water.
If you have access to a dishwasher,
run everything on high,
this will remove all of the oil
from your cooking utensils.
Now that everything is clean.
Pour yourself a large glass
of cold milk or have a spot of tea
and eat your "Twinkies'.

Twinkies are a sponge cake filled with cream. They just recently brought back the banana cream filled ones too. They stopped making the banana flavored ones during the world wars due to banana's being rationed. They're fattening but really good. =)
