It is true that nobody is perfect
However, we still are asked to do the best we can with the talents that God has give us.
See Jesus' parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30.

I'm not Catholic, but...the perfection that you are talking about has to do with sin. If you do not practice, then chances are that if and when you have backslid, you will not go to Heaven (That is, if you accidentally die).
