Yes, you should. The first person in America to have a right to speak up against anything, is the person who will go in harms way. Think back, all the reasons given for why we are in Iraq, can you think of one that actually panned out. In the mean time this a war searching for a reason....and the dying goes on. The life long disabilities. Long after the honor is gone, people will treat the disabled from this war like freaks. Believe me I know. Something I learned from 'Nam.

Try to convince him to head Air drive and get a excellent schooling at the same time he is in. As opposed to being within the Marines and having a bigger hazard of simply becoming a rifleman in Iraq. If he wishes to be more marketable GO AIR force and if he desires to only be a navy grunt then go the entire approach Marines. Simply be certain he does now not go military or Navy. Army has mediocre training and they'll recruit any moron who can spell their own title, Navy spends most of their time on a ship or boat and faraway from the household. I did 6 years within the Air drive as a network engineer, I obtained out with an education and i've a quality job. I've worked with all branches of service and have noticeable all quality of living occasions. I nonetheless say GO AIR force. And yes which you can enlist within the reserves without being in energetic responsibility first. That goes for all branches of carrier.

That is his right. However, if he is on active duty, he will be accountable for his words, especially if they are contemptuous of his chain of command and the armed forces in general (Article 134-12, I believe). If he is not on active duty, he could be in trouble for wearing his service uniform while performing the former act. Either way, being against the war is one thing, publically speaking about his theory as to why is a place where he will have to tread lightly to keep from doing something stupid, like bringing discredit upon himself, the Marine Corps, and/or the President of the United States of America, through his words.

Anyway, what kind of Marine is he for speaking out against the war IN UNIFORM?! No Marine in his right mind would go against the UCMJ to give a speech about his opinion of the war.

It has always been explained RIGHT from boot camp not to become involved in or even be present near a rally or demonstration of this type,I don't remember if this is ACTUALLY against the UCMJ BUT it is dangerous and I would talk him out of it if you can. Warren isn't the most dangerous place in Michigan by far but still it is dangerous to him and anyone who accompanies him for obvious reasons. Even if he doesn't go to mass or get a court martial he will probably lose a lot fo respect and its likely to ruin the rest of his life as well as millitary career.

attempt to cajole him to flow Air rigidity and get a sturdy coaching collectively as he's in. as antagonistic to being interior the Marines and having a greater robust threat of basically starting to be a rifleman in Iraq. is your nephew still in the military? if so and he wears the uniform then he will be sitting in a military jail for a long time. If he's not then he is not authorized to wear the uniform. Either way your nephew is a piece of scum who deserves to be spat on because I know many soldiers who tell me that things are going great over in Iraq and your nephew is the reason these ignorant liberal morons keep trying to get our soldiers killed by pulling out of there.

You dont have a nephew who is going to speak at an anti war protest. You come up with some fairy tales just to further your personal agenda. And he is allowed to speak but not in uniform.

if your son actually left the F****** wire and patrolled the streets of iraq recently, especially in the An-bar province. he can see for his own eyes things are going well. i was in between fallujah and ramadi and we went from a batallion sized area of opertaions to jus 30 Marines. your nephew is a dosgrace to the Corps and every punitive action should be taken against him. and to answer your question, no you should not be proud of your soon to be ex- marine. for him it is not once a Marine always a Marine.

I respect that he has, in the past, served his country. That is noble. For that, in my opinion, one has a reason to be proud... not of the person, but of the duty.

But in speaking against the war, especially as a Marine, and in uniform, he might find himself on the way out of the Marines.

I knew a kid working in the Pentagon, in the Navy Office of Information. He was editor and main contributor to an anti-military/anti-war underground newspaper. Because he was not the brightest bulb in the box, he came up for a Captain's Mast. He merely disobeyed a direct order to assist somebody with a non-critical job. He might have gotten off with a reprimand. But he tried using office politics and when it came before the CDR sitting at the mast, because of the politics sent it to a Summary Court Martial. That resulted in the loss of his rating and voided his promotion and he was busted down to E-3. So he got an interview with the Washington Post. The interview came out on Sunday. The Admiral got in at 8:00 AM. At 8:05 the kid was out of the Pentagon, his clearance revoked, and he was over at the Washington Navy Yard writing biographies of long dead Admirals. He was last seen picking up papers at the Annex... transit barracks for those arriving and leaving. I believe he was booted out with a general discharge... and he was lucky.

Combat affects people differently. I do not begrudge those who have served and are no longer in the military to their opinions... even if they don't agree with mine. But every sailor who went to Southeast Asia were told that they were not allowed to express opinions... especially to foreigners. The reason for that is not to deny freedom of speech. But any kid in uniform can, and often have been, quoted as "unnamed military sources." If they were in the Pentagon, they were quoted as "unnamed military Pentagon sources." Again, the media has no interest in truth... only in increasing circulation/ratings so they can raise the price of advertising. So, even if drunk and disorderly, the troops were bound not to talk. And most of them were good about it. The few who were not, were quoted... especially if their "expert testimony" was anti-war/anti-military/anti-US.

I'd report the kid to his command. It would be my hope that they restrict him to base, thus preventing him from making a gigantic error in judgment, and perhaps saving his career. At least send a couple of witnesses to the speech and nail the kid for his very un-military breach.
