Hello,
I want opinions here. I want an honest answer on the credibility of the religion Jehovahs Witness. Do you guys think that Jehovah Witness religion is legit or not. Reason I am asking is because my girlfriend follows that religion, she wants me to follow it. I've heard some negative things about them. I was raised a catholic, I do not follow it at all times (meaning I do not go to church every Sunday). Can you guys help me out, I am trying to decide if that's the way to go.
thanks,
Art

Jehovah's Witnesses are unique for their rejection of paganisms, use of God's personal name, and global preaching by every active adherent. No other religious organization can claim such purity of worship.

These facts about Jehovah's Witnesses are perhaps relevant to this question. The more one compares this Christian religion with others, the more remarkable it is shown to be.

1. Jehovah's Witnesses have no paid clergy. Yet they remain tightly organized with more than 6.5 million active Jehovah's Witness preachers (about 16 million associate themselves with the religion). Even fulltime preachers and workers at their branch offices are unpaid volunteers.

2. There is no elite class among Jehovah's Witnesses. Even the few 'anointed' among them enjoy no special privileges in their congregations on earth. An anointed person (one of those relative few with a heavenly hope) is not elevated above his fellow congregants in any way, and he may not even qualify for appointment as a simple 'deacon' or elder. There are no titles; EVERYONE is addressed as 'brother' or 'sister'.

3. No person benefits economically from the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Even the 8 to 20 men who serve on their Governing Body receive simply room, board, medical care, and reimbursement for certain personal expenses according to the exact same provision as every other branch volunteer.

4. About a hundred men have served on Jehovah's Witnesses' Governing Body committee during the past 125 years or so. The vast majority of them have spent the vast majority of their adult lives volunteering for their organization's purposes, and the vast majority have died faithfully and near-pennilessly while still under their legal 'vow of poverty'.

5. Amazingly, Jehovah's Witnesses did not splinter as a sect from some other religion. Instead, a truly tiny but sincere group of bible students studied only the Scriptures to determine the will of God. Thus their religion remains absolutely independent of and not carrying the sins of Christendom's history, yet carries the authority of Christ's teachings.

6. Despite the distortions of anti-Witnesses, throughout their modern history Jehovah's Witnesses have refused to claim divine inspiration or infallibility for their teachings. They have pointed to the bible (and not any particular translation) as the only inspired infallible means of knowing God's thoughts. For over 125 years, their teachings have been presented as merely the results of sincere bible research by imperfect but godly humans.

You've received a number of replies to your questions about the Jehovah's Witness religion, some pro other's con.

The Jehovah's Witnesses refer you to their web site, their publications, and their ministers for answers. They also mention their experience with the religion, which according to them, is always positive. The non-JWs do the same. Though the ex-JWs mention their negative experiences with the religion. The reality is that there is a wealth of information available on the Witness church, both good and bad.

However, when shopping for a new automobile, would you only go to the manufacturer's website and interview only their salespeople? The Jehovah's Witnesses like the Anglicans, Baptists, and Catholics will only give you a positive spin on their religion.

A wiser course is to check out neutral sources to see what information they have. And don't ignore what former members of the JW church have to say their experience in the religion. You may find that they have legitimate concerns that you don't want to overlook.

Consider both sides, take your time, and don't make a hasty decision.

Yes we are credible. Many have brought out good points. I would add that it is a personal decision. Your girl can invite you in but you have to decide what you want to do.

With our free home Bible studies, we make sure you learn the basics of Bible truths and can prove to anyone from the Bible yourself what it says.

That is different from all other religions in that all of us are ministers as was the 1st century Christians. Families attend meetings together not separated. All can have a part or not.

There is nothing weird going on at any meeting. Nothing anyone will require you to do. The only thing to bring would be your copy of the Bible and maybe paper & pen. Sometimes it is hard for me to remember numbers as in chapter and verse so I must write it down. Except for car keys, you can bring empty pockets as no money will every be asked of anyone there. Girlfriends are completely different matter though. Money is not an option with them.

I have been a Jehovah's Witness since 1985. Before that I was brought up a Church of England Protestant. I did not want to become a Jehovah's Witness. But after working with one for some time I discovered how different they were from those who professed to be Christians (especially Catholics) I took a Bible Study and found out for myself. I used every argument I could to try and get them confused and contradictory, but I couldn't. I went through a hard time while studying with them, but I wouldn't change now.
Don't listen to others. Find out for yourself. Take up a Bible Study and check for yourself what the B ible has to say.

My brothers and sisters have about said it all.

I'll just add this- there's a lot of half-truths and outright lies about Jehovah's Witnesses because others do not like the fact there is a religion that sticks to the Bible more than they do. As Achtung_heiss has mentioned, there is no one above the law among Jehovah's Witnesses, anyone deciding to unrepentantly practice anything that goes against Bible laws and principles is put out of the organization to keep it morally clean. This is something the Bible tells us to do.

1 Corinthians 5:11-13 "But now I am writing you to quit mixing in company with anyone called a brother that is a fornicator or a greedy person or an idolater or a reviler or a drunkard or an extortioner, not even eating with such a man. For what do I have to do with judging those outside? Do you not judge those inside, while God judges those outside? REMOVE the wicked man from among yourselves."

A lot of such put-out ones are usually bitter and spread lies against their former brothers. Hence prepare to hear a lot of nonsense about Jehovah's Witnesses, too.

Jehovah God wanted us to use his name. Matthew 6:9, Jesus told us that we should pray: "Our Father in the heavens, let your NAME be SANCTIFIED." Also Isaiah 43:10 also brings out that Jehovah said, "You are my WITNESSES." God is a Title. Even with Arabs. A good dictionary will show you, “Allah” is a shortened form of the Arabic term meaning “the god", this is not a name. The title “God” is neither personal nor distinctive. In the Hebrew Scriptures the same word (ʼElo‧him′) is applied to Jehovah, the true God, and also to false gods. The Imperial Bible-Dictionary says: “It is everywhere a proper name, denoting the personal God and him only; whereas Elohim partakes more of the character of a common noun, denoting usually, indeed, but not necessarily nor uniformly, the Supreme. . . . The Hebrew may say the Elohim, the true God, in opposition to all false gods; but he never says the Jehovah, for Jehovah is the name of the true God only. He says again and again my God . . . ; but never my Jehovah, for when he says my God, he means Jehovah. He speaks of the God of Israel, but never of the Jehovah of Israel, for there is no other Jehovah. He speaks of the living God, but never of the living Jehovah, for he cannot conceive of Jehovah as other than living.” Hope This Helps

If you want to be involved in a religion that ignores what the bible teaches then you've found one.

Among many other beliefs is this one about Jesus being our mediator. The bible is very clear in explaining who Jesus is the mediator of
1 Timothy 2:5 "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;"

This scripture explains that Jesus is our mediator. This is what true christians believe.

Unfortunately, 99% of JWs are taught that as part of the 'other sheep' Jesus is not their mediator. Not many JWs actually know this and I mention it when they knock on my door.as I think it is so important to give them a proper witness about Jesus.

Here are two quotes from their own publications
Likewise, the Greater Moses, Jesus Christ, is not the Mediator between Jehovah God and all mankind. He is the Mediator between his heavenly Father, Jehovah God, and the nation of spiritual Israel, which is limited to only 144,000 members." Worldwide Security Under the "Prince of Peace" pp.10-11

"Is Jesus the "mediator" only for anointed Christians? ... So in this strict Biblical sense Jesus is the "mediator" only for anointed Christians." Watchtower 1979 Apr 1 p.31

Jesus also established a new covenant with his people but guess what? That same 99% of JWs are not included or are a part of that covenant.

Here are some things to think about - Is there one true religion? What did Jesus believe? Did he think it was okay to belong to just any religion? How do you go about finding the one true religion?

True religion will follow five things:

1. Use, respect and obey God's Word - the Bible. Not just parts of it that fit what they want to hear, but all of it. (2 Tim. 3:16)
2. They would see that God's kingdom is the only solution to the problems that mankind faces. Realize that God's government does NOT rule through the earthly governments now in place. (Dan. 2:44)
3. They would be no part of this world as Jesus commanded them to be. The people of this religion would not allow themselves to be squeezed into the world's mold. (Romans 12:2)
4. They would be known by God's name - Jehovah, who is most high over all the earth. God's name was originally in the Bible over 7,000 times until a man decided to take it out. (Ps. 83:18)
5. They (the adherents to this true religion) would have love among themselves. Love bonds true Christians. They would love each other regardless of race or ethnic backgrounds. It would be a true world-wide brotherhood.(John 13:34, 35)

When you have found the religion that goes by these five things, and not just some of them, but ALL of them, then you have found the one true religion. So then ask yourself - Do the Jehovah's Witnesses go by these five things? If so, then ask for a Bible Study from them, that's the only way you will learn.

If you want honest answers, you may find few here. Many here are biased against Jehovah's Witnesses, and their answers will be about as sincere and objective as the answer you would get if you could ask the Judas Iscariot, who betrayed the Lord Jesus, whether he was a good man or not.

Go with your girlfriend to the Kingdom Hall, get to know some Witnesses in real life. Study with them, get to know what they teach.

And then make your own informed decision.

Listen, you should really believe in something to be that religion follower...
So,if you don't believe in Jehovah, why to be a Jehovah Witness???
If you're not sure about the religion, don't ask a question on Yahoo Answers...Of course that thoes who hate jehovah Witnesses will say that the religion is stupid (and I find those answers very immature) and Jehovah Witnesses themselves will explain their religion to you in their answers...
Ask your girlfriend about the religiona nd about the stuff you want to know...
Don't rush into anything...
