Why does my 1996 Nissan Sentra GXE keeps stalling?

it turns off randomly at a complete stop or about to stop, and it takes a good 5 minutes to start back up. I have put in it a new distributor, a different mass air flow sensor, i have done tune ups on it, all fuel parts have been checked, i only use high octane gas, and yet my mechanic and Nissan cant seem to find the problem

i have had that problem with 3 cars that i have owned over the years. it turned out to be something with the transmission. i don't remember what it was called but all my mechanic did was unplug a wire from the transmission that deals with the tork converter and after that the cars ran fine.
