Is this a legitimate charity to donate to? I am thinking of doing this instead of buying Christmas gifts for family members this year, but want to ensure the money is going where it is needed.

I've sponsored children with World Vision for many years and love the updates and photos I get of the kids.

I know a lot about World Vision since I've volunteered overseas with them and visited several of their projects in different countries. What I like is that they are working to make communities self-sustainable. I highly recommend them.

I love their gift catalogue and often buy school supplies for kids in developing countries as 'gifts' at Christmas.

World Vision is very good, I sponsor a child thru them, have for years, my child is now a teacher in his village. You can check out any charity group at charitynavigator.org. World Vision is okay though, they do what they say. I even get grade card reports back on the young man I sponsor.

Their effectiveness has earned the trust and support of more than one million donors, thousands of churches, and hundreds of corporations, institutions, and government agencies around the globe.

A couple of us have sponsored a child and have received correspondence from the young man we sponsored.

I've heard good and not so good stuff on World Vision, but I can't really remember what it was. Sorry this isn't very useful, just to let you know so you can check it out thoroughly before committing.
