After a few slaps I think you have to show your teeth and stand up for yourself. I can roll with the punches to a degree but people will crap all over you if you don't draw the line somewhere! :)

Dear Latinoheat,
i think there is a difference between being persecuted and being assaulted: remember when the Roman soldiers were mocking Jesus he said nothing (this was basically turning the cheek). Obviously if someone was trying to rob you- by all means defend yourself.
In our hearts we should seek to be peacemakers and avoid heated situations. There are many times i've tried to play the part of a peacemaker when some of my friends or co-workers got heated at each other. And this is the same attitude i try to carry with me-- but it does not mean that we should be a doormat for abuse. It takes the wisdom of the Holy Spirit and a heart that is surrendered to God especially if we have a propensity for losing our temper easily.
Hope that helps. Kindly,
Nickster

I believe that accepting persecution for Christ's sake is the way of the gospel and following Christ but I also believe in the apologetics where you prove that your point is valid and yet do not denounce those who are against you. A few apologetics that are most noteworthy are Polycarp, Justin and Ignatius of Antioch and Tertullian and Origen. You can stand up for your faith and yet turn the other cheek at the same time when you defend your faith .

the text in question is "If a man should strike you upon your left cheek, offer him your right." Its been a while but thats the gist of it, correct?
You notice, neither JC or the good book tell you what to do if they strike you upon the Right cheek as well. I take that to mean once they strike you twice, all bets are off and the decision is yours as to how you handle it..
One strike, slight, or injury, whether physical or emotional can be chalked up to an accident or the heat of the moment.and can be forgiven as such, but the second, would clearly be intentional, keep in mind your source material also asks for "An eye for an eye" at another point, which we all know leads to blindness if un checked...

Yes, to the first half of your question. No, to the second half of your question. I think there comes a point when you must physically defend yourself. I think Christ's point was to not pick a fight for starters. Also, he does want us to turn the other cheek but not to accept outright abuse.

Absolutely. NOwhere in the Bible does it say stupid is a requirement. I could not be more serious. Turning the other cheek is a metaphor mostly.... Remember, GOD gave us the will to survive.
How ya doin'?

i think of your chum is erroneous. Jesus does point out this. If in basic terms in, "And the meek shall inherit the earth." very regularly occurring quote. in spite of the undeniable fact that, the meek are not precisely taken care of as venerable ones now are they? although, sarcastically, i don't be responsive to many christians who do turn a cheek, no longer to point the different one. to boot, i do no longer think of your non secular perspectives could have something to do with it. Morality isn't a non secular factor, it relatively is a human factor. to boot, basically for the reason which you at the instant are not likely to lash out in revenge does no longer advise you won't be able to tell that man or woman what you think of of ways they taken care of you. It basically ability you won't be able to be merciless approximately it. in spite of the undeniable fact that, I doubt even Jesus could merchandise to you telling somebody you disillusioned them consisting of your cruelty.

Well the Bible teaches both (turn the other cheek and an eye for an eye) so I guess you pick and choose which verse fits you best. That's what most Christians do =)

The bible does say to turn the other cheek, but not to let them hit us in that cheek as well. If someone is trying to hurt you, by all means defend yourself!

There are christians on all sides of this issue...It depends on who *you* are and what you choose to be. I am more a pacifist , but I will not hesitate defending myself or anyone else to whatever far extent it may be.
