I think HDMI upscales (or at least makes look better) DVDs, right? Does component do the same or does even HDMI do it?

In order to upscale DVD's, you must have the HDMI cable. Component will not support that function.

HDMI for 1080p, 1080i
component for 1080i

Well HDMI is the best cabel on the market, then component, followed by VGA, Scart, S-VHS and composite...

If you got an HDMI output in your tv go with that...
