My husband says only when they chorus bark at 5 am. Then he thinks about how we could be spending Christmas in Tunisia. ;-)

Just to be clear, this isn't a "help me justify getting rid of my dog" question.
It's more have you every had an "up all night with a sick dog, shaking with exhaustion" moment? Or a "I can't believe he got pass the safety gate and ate the whole cake/turkey/new shoes" moment?

There is a downside to everything in life and owning a dog is no exception. I have six and I wish sometimes that I wouldn't have had countless sets of furniture thrown away after being shredded. I REALLY miss that favorite pair of glasses I searched for six months for and Naomi ate. Rugs...forget about it. I've lost countless pairs of shoes and hairbrushes.
But you keep going over and over that in your mind and eventually it can lead you back in only one direction. Who's fault is all of that really? Is it Benji's fault...no. It's mine. Just like it's my fault we spend more on Frontline per month than most people do on car payments. I can't go on vacation by choice. I could replace the furniture fifty times... but what would I pay to keep from losing them? ANYTHING!!

Only last year, I bought a puppy on the side of the road, even though I KNOW better. Her sire looked exactly like a clone of my dog I had just lost to cancer. I was emotional (read, hysterical!) and it was absolutely an impulse buy, heck I saw him from across the road and went ballistic. Anyway, I had her for 7 weeks, just long enough to get attached, she never spent more than 12 hours out of my sight the whole time I had her. She went with me everywhere. All of a sudden she got VERY sick, and since she had all of her shots I started panicking, she died at 13 weeks old from kidney failure. Her kidneys never developed. Apparently both of her parents would have had to have had serious kidney defects themselves for her to have been this ill, and they were still bred. My vet also said he would put money on it that every puppy in the litter died as well. She was absolutely the most BEAUTIFUL and photogenic puppy I've ever had. The smartest as well, she could sit, stay, down, roll over by the time she was 8 weeks old and never, not once did she have an accident in the house. I've never had a better puppy. It was heartbreaking to lose two dearly loved dogs in less than 6 months and I will NEVER buy from a backyard breeder again. This is the ONLY instance I've ever regretted getting a dog.

Yeah I have, but it only lasts a minute or two lol I think they are just normal feelings when you get stressed out or when you're sick and not feeling well and you realize that your dog still needs your attention no matter what. But then I look at my dog and all that goes away because I love him so much and he's worth it all. Sure I could have a cleaner house, come and go as I pleased, etc. but who would be there to cheer me up? to cuddle with? to love me unconditionally? to make me laugh? The list goes on :)

Sometimes i do only for my dog though. I really wanted her and then i started to get busy with work and school i pretty much didnt give her the attention she needed and she was so wild i could barley handle a 67 pound lab. But i took her to training and shes not perfect but she is funny and cute.

Oh yes, when I have to clean up poop off my living room carpet every morning and when she eats every pair of my daughters shoes and all the toys she eats. Especially that damn beanie baby, there were beads all over my floor. But I would not trade her for any other dog, heck we've made it this far!

Probably the fact that my dog has chewed up everything valuable in the house and I get in trouble for it. But I love him and I wouldn't have my dog any other way, although my parents could probably suggest a few changes.

Nope, never. All of mine were from rescue groups and they are so happy it's silly. Of course they do dog stuff (bark at the neighbor's dog, steal my food if I leave it where they can get it, etc.) but then, that's what dogs do. Plus, they're just plain funny.

No not for a second. I can't even remember a moment in my whole life where there weren't any dogs.

I have a female who was literally the pup from hell and on the odd occasion I did think how easy it would be without her. She's now 4.1/2 yrs. old, couldn't be a sweeter or more obedient dog.
