70-80 yards should be a piece of cake with a little practice. The 44 Remington Magnum will take down any Whitetail or Mule Deer I've ever seen. It's hard hitting and an effective round for Deer. A 44 Mag NEF Handi-Rifle would take out a Bear with a well placed shot too....Just remember you have only one shot without reloading.....

I shoot a Ruger Black Hawk .44 mag pistol with a 6 1/2" barrel and have downed white-tails at 45 yards. I wouldn't recommned it to the novice shooter, but that handi can do up to 90 yds. with practice.

Even out of a handgun, at the ranges you listed, it would be very effective on medium game.
