The 11th hour of the 11th day of the the 11th month ended the war "...to end all wars"...It used to be called "Armistice Day"...Now it is Veteran's Day...This Sunday we commemorate that solemn occassion with pomp and circumstance by remembering those who have already served and are continuing to serve this great country...If you want to see America's most valuable contribution to world peace, go to google earth and put in american cemetary, france...click on the photo buttons - it'll give you goosebumps...Do the same for the Philippine Islands in the Pacific or Pearl Harbor...Our priceless gift to the world are all the grave markers of soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen who are at eternal parade rest...Undying gratitude and thanks go to our allies then and now - The Brits, Canucks, French, Philipinos, Free Chinese, Poles, Danes, Italians, Thais, Aussies, Kiwis, Indians and former enemies now friends.
Perpetual Thank You to one and all...Keep the Faith.

Thank you for this. It's nice to know that there are still people out there who have some grasp at the price we've paid for our lives of luxury and privilege that we enjoy today. Guess it's not surprising that it takes another fellow veteran to realize this... most folks will be galavanting around shopping or partying on their free day off instead of honoring those who have paid to give them that day off.

Don't forget the ones laying in our VA Hospitals, there are so few WWII vets left, I believe I heard there is still a couple WWI vets alive also. The hospitals are full of vetrans from nearly every war and conflict the States have been in since WWI.
Your right to say thanks to our allies, but stoping by a VA Hospital and saying thank in person means so much. If you can take a couple $5.00 bills with you ask a nurse she'll be glad to tell you who could really use a handshake, a thank you and a fiver. I know, I'm a disabled vet myself, and when I was in the hospital back in the seventies, all the hate and name calling of the vets didn't help anyone. It hurt, and many are still fighting the demons from back then. Now once again our hospitals are filling with war wounded, lets hope they get the thank yous that they so honorably deserve.

In the UK we still have Armistice Day and this year will be the first time in 6 years that it falls on Remembrance Sunday.
There are so few WW1 veterans left http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surviving_veterans_of_World_War_I it somehow seems fitting that the dates fall together.
I have viewed some of the cemeteries through this site
http://www.cwgc.org/default.asp while trying to trace the grave of one of my Great-Uncles who was killed in France during WW2, looking at the names and ages in the registers made me cry.
Thankyou seems like such an inadequate word for what was given and is still being given by our Servicemen and Women.... but I give it to them and to you with Remembrance and tears and pride... Thankyou.
