This article is the one another questioner brought up earlier (I think) re: a Colorado town and banning Christmas trees from city property. To everyone here, regardless of belief...is this a bit too much? Are we treading on the absurd? Would love to hear input from all.

That's getting a bit absurd. Christmas is enough of a secular holiday that they're not pushing Christianity on anyone by having a tree.

Especially since Christmas trees are Pagan anyway...

Christmas always has and always will be the day Christ was born. That is the reason for the season. NOBODY can EVER get rid of Christmas. It's here to stay. Christ is here to stay.

There is a wonderful new album out by a woman who is not afraid to talk about the REAL meaning of Christmas. It's called Christmas in the Ancient Church, and it's choral music. All the parts are sung by one woman. Soprano, alto, tenor and bass. She does Christmas readings from the Bible also. I suppose they'll try to ban these CD's too, but I'm glad SOMEBODY is putting out CDs that are for CHRISTMAS, not just some pagan ritual or rock music. Listen to it: http://www.nancybarrow.com. It's an awesome CD. You have to be in a quiet place and in a serious mood to get the most from it. It's the best Christmas CD I've heard in years.

no, they made the rules in the first place because they didn't want a menorah up on city property (or that is the way the article makes it seem) Now since they won't let symbols from other religions they have to stop doing all symbols. It's kinda of ridiculous, but some people are prepared to have nothing rather than let there be some of everything.

If you're going to put up lights, regulating which colors can and can't be used seems a bit silly. The bigger question, which that same city has already addressed, is putting up any kind of holiday decorations at all.

It's best to leave such initiatives in the hands of the private sector, on private property.

I don't put up a christmas tree in my own home but I see no problem with towns that wish to display them. A great many people of all beliefs do celebrate the holiday and enjoy those types of festivities so why ruin it.

You are correct in your assesment. That is absurd. While I can see how it may be thought of as innappropriate to display a manger scene on something people simply have WAY to much time on their hands if this issuch a huge issue. Personally I LOVE chritsmas, the decorations etc, all of it.

What's interesting is that this task force is said to be made up of religious groups too.I can kinda see why they wanted to avoid a big contraversey in that a jew wanted fair representation. They probably figured they didn't want a hoard of groups demanding to have each of their own symbols represented. But calling green and red lights as a particular religious symbol is weird.I'm against it,and i'm not a christian.

Consider these verses in Jeremiah 10: 1-7 Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel: 2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. 3 For the customs of the people [are] vain: for [one] cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. 4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. 5 They [are] upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also [is it] in them to do good. 6 Forasmuch as [there is] none like unto thee, O LORD; thou [art] great, and thy name [is] great in might. 7 Who would not fear thee, O King of nations? for to thee doth it appertain: forasmuch as among all the wise [men] of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, [there is] none like unto thee.
So if you believe in the Bible you will not have a tree in your house.

A Christmas tree is by no means Christian. The entire town should get together and decorate every tree in their yards with as many colored lights as they can.

yes it's crazy, we can't decorate and celebrate Jesus birthday, but we have to make sure the Muslims can go out and pray at work and we don't offend them in any way, our christian religion has hit a brick wall since 911 in this area. it's mainly the liberals that have hurt these united states and the government we need to get back in line when with what our parents were taught and tried to teach good morals and good religion and don't be afraid or ashamed to say you believe in God.
