I bought him with no papers, or shots. I know some are "detemper", "deworm", and "rabies" or something like that.

EDIT :

I just found this from an Q&A on the Purina Website

3 How do I know when it's time for my puppy/dog to get shots, and how do I know which one's he needs?

A young puppy should start their shots shortly after they enter your home. While a puppy gets some immunity from their mother via the milk, this immunity begins to diminish between 8-16 weeks of age. Therefore, they need to be vaccinated for the common canine diseases. These include, but are not limited to Canine distemper, hepatitis, parvo virus, bordetella virus, parainfluenza and Lyme disease. Naturally he will also need a rabies vaccination. Which ones are necessary depend to some extent on your area. Please consult with your veterinarian to determine which vaccinations are needed for your puppy.

1. It depends on where you live. Here, in so. cal., my vet does not give the HL in what is known as the 5 in 1, DHLPP. Distemper, Helpto, Lepto, Parvo and Parainfluenza. Here we don't have hepto now, or lepto, so he gives a DA2P: Distemper, Adenovirus, Parvo and Parainfluenza.

Diseases can be more localized and vaccines, if not needed, should NOT be given.

2. Overvaccination can lead to serious immune-mediated diseases which include cancers, allergies, hypo and hyperthryroidism, cushings, addisons hemolytic anaemia etc. Not happy diseases.

Normally, your vet will worm 2-3 times with a broad spectrum wormer unless there is something else in the parasite load that requires a specific med.

New vaccine protocols approved by AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) and now being taught at veterinary schools does NOT require annual DA2P or variations thereof. The vaccine protocols now accepted can be found at the site listed below.

Go here for the recommended CORE vaccines.

Importantly, REMEMBER that your puppy's feet should NEVER, until 2 weeks after the final vaccine booster, touch foreign soil... only that in YOUR yard.

Best wishes to you and your new pup.

he needs a 6or seven in one shot depends onteh vet ( vet knows) tehn 34 weeks he will need anohter and again another 3-4 weeks ( again the type of vaccine the vet uses)
He should be wormed have th vet do a stool sample and they will determine what meds are needed. he should get rabies shot at 4 months and I would suggest spay or neuter at 5-6 months.
The reg vaccines are good for a year after the 3 sets for the booster and the rabies the first is a booster and good for 1 year and then they are good for 3 years.
Where I live once the dog is 4 months it is suppose to be licensed withthe town?or county you live in.

Call your vet and ask what shot schedule he needs to be on. Your pup will need at least it's Parvo, Distemper and Rabies shots. Some vets give combination vaccines as well.

Do not forget bordetella if she is around other dogs. Our vet told us it wasn't required, but it can only help in the long run...

Take it to your vet. They will give you thorough information on what your dog will need.
