Dear Nino,

Many of the recipients of the book of 1 Peter had been scattered abroad by the Roman Empire due to persecution. One of the purposes that Peter had in writing this book was to encourage his fellow believers to hold on to their faith in God in spite of suffering.

It is called a living hope firstly because it is grounded in the living word of God (1 Peter 1:23) and was made by possible by the living Son of God who rose from the dead. A living hope is one that has life in it and therefore can give life to us. Because it has life it grows and becomes greater and more beautiful as time goes on. Most hopes dissipate with time; they fade and then die. But the passing of time only makes a Christian's hope that much more glorious.

Hope that helps. Kindly,

Nickster

Starting at Pentecost 33 C.E., God gave them what Peter referred to as “a new birth to a living hope . . . reserved in the heavens.” (1 Peter 1:3, 4; 3:21) God's holy spirit implanted in them a conviction that they would eventually live with Jesus Christ in heaven. This gave them a whole new outlook on life—a new beginning.

The apostle Peter speaks of their heavenly hope as a “living” one when he writes to them.
