I'm at work, otherwise I would measure how high mine is (just had the house remodeled last year and went through this with the contractor). But, I can estimate.
My range is at standard counter height (36 inches). and, when I walk up to the range hood, I have to bend down a few inches to see the switches underneath. So, it's probably 2 or 3 inches under my eye level, which is 5 feet 7 inches (67 inches). So, I would say the bottom of the range hood is at about 64 inches.
64 inches minus 36 inches is 28 inches from the top of the stove to the bottom of the range hood. And, I seem to remember the contractor saying about 28 - 32 inches is standard.
And that seems about right, because we have a fairly square tile backsplash behind the stove that goes up from the counter to the bottom of the range hood. And, the range is 30 inches wide. So, the backsplash would be about 30 inches high.
