I allowed the Yahoo Community to pick what they thought was the best answer to my question regarding the Immaculate Conception of Mary, and they chose an answer that is absolutely wrong, according to even the most liberal interpretation of the term:

The complete and correct information on the matter is available here:

How can anyone claim faith alone and scripture alone as their dogma, appeal to the power of the Holy Spirit for guidance, arrive at numerous incorrect and widely divergent answers (like they did on this one) yet still claim to know the truth?

I find the vast majority of the population in America are lacking in proper theology, history, philosophy and general knowledge of their religion, SPECIFICALLY christians.

If Dan Brown's the Da Vinci Code can become a bestseller in this country and have people actually believing its innane, unhistorical, absurd and smutty ideas, THAT is speaking for itself!

I do not think you can use R&S responders in any way that is statistically significant. The questions rarely have a life beyond 20-30 minutes after asked, so the sample is relative small.

R&S responders are not alone in confusing Immaculate Conception with the Virgin Birth. I saw the confusion in a fairly popular mystery featuring the Roman Catholic Church by Tess Gerritsen, The Sinner.

I would say to assrt that even 50% have understanding of basic theology on yahoo answers would be an incredibly HIGH estimate. It is much less who have any understanding at all.

To Coralsnayk it is a requirement in most theology programs to take at least the basic theology of other religions as well as comparative classes. So theology scholars have an understanding of the theology of other religions.

To Cheir you do understand that the actual definition of heresy is opinion or a doctrine at variance with established religious beliefs, especially dissension from or denial of Roman Catholic dogma . Protestantism, the 5 solas, and the Protestant Canon are by defintion heresies not the Catholic dogma as you assert

As I had posted before,
If God could prevent someone from sinning, then the cross is void.

The reason for the cross was inherited sin.

Rom 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned--
Rom 5:13 (For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
Rom 5:14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.
Rom 5:15 But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man's offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many.

The Cross is ridiculous and worthless if he didn't need to do it!

We are the temple's of God, the new Ark Of the Covenant is a picture of Jesus, not of any other.

Mary was very special, and obviously God payed close attention to who he placed his son inside of. He was not her Genetics, and he had a body prepared for him. (Hebrews and Psalms)

All had been tainted by Original sin, except for the second Adam, that is Jesus who was made perfect and without original sin.

Otherwise, he could have reset the system and we wouldn't have needed the cross.

You know how deep you are in it, by the length of the rope that pulls you out!

Jesus had to die for my sins, and everyone elses, he is my rope and I am holding fast!

Heb 10:5 Therefore, when He came into the world, He said:

"Sacrifice and offering You did not desire,
But a body You have prepared for Me.
Heb 10:6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin
You had no pleasure.
Heb 10:7 Then I said, "Behold, I have come--
In the volume of the book it is written of Me--
To do Your will, O God."'[1]

A Body you prepared for me

Isa 9:6 For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Unto us a Son is GIVEN

Isa 7:14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.[2]

The word Conceive is HawRaw, which doesn't mean to conceive, but to "be with child". She had a child in her womb.

She needed a savior, and also all have sinned. Jesus was the only one to have never sinned.

Rom 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Luk 1:47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
Luk 1:48 For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant;
For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
Luk 1:49 For He who is mighty has done great things for me,
And holy is His name.
Luk 1:50 And His mercy is on those who fear Him
From generation to generation.

Notice her pointing out Mercy. Mercy is not getting the things we deserve.

Grace is getting things that we don't deserve. If she was perfect, she deserved it.

He was even going to pierce his own Mother's soul:

Luk 2:34 Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, "Behold, this Child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against
Luk 2:35 (yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed."

Because any religious question you ask is going to get widely divergent answers - that's why we have freedom of religion and we're not all the same religion. I severely disagree with Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell, but supposedly they're Christian and so am I. God has all the answers, not you. Let people take it up with God.

I think most of the people who chose answers do it for the points, and don't even bother to read the answers. They pick the top question.

I think that a lot of people understand only too well the heresies of the Roman Church particularly the bizarre and monstrous claims made by the unjustified extrapolations of meanings from Scripture - which have absolutely no backing in the Protestant canon.

I would say that the number would even be larger than you suggest. Correct theology is something that someone must study for YEARS in order to even be close. Those that make themselves 'experts' are really only experts in their own minds.

it is a few thing that i detect the two facets are to blame of. it is merely that all and sundry is entrenched of their evaluations and as a result the evaluations or perspectives of the opposing facets are perceived in simplistic and as caricatures. i do no longer think of it is an attempt to misinform, yet is merely human beings arguing approximately issues they are blind to. Examples from the two facets that i've got seen on R&S: - there is actual no evidence for evolution (whether authentic to a pair quantity, i.e. that there is not any singular piece of information that proves it, there's a huge physique of helping information) - faith is the reason at the back of all wars/extra wars than something/extra suffering than something. - faith prevents scientific discovery - Islam is a violent faith - Medieval Christians have been ignorant illiterate people who believed the international became flat - concept X disproves evolution... etc etc etc. It gets somewhat uninteresting after a mutually as, because of the fact it is obtrusive that maximum folk make claims and counter-claims with none concept or examine and are merely parrotting regularly-held yet misguided homilies.

You end up with thousands of 'CJ's', who have thousands of different interpretations of Scripture, that the Holy Spirit convicted them of you know!

Hogwash, I say.

When the Warning comes, it will be interesting indeed to see how many listen..
