Christ is the word. He was with God the Father in the beginning. The Word became God because He was assigned by God to be the God of this world. Thus, Christ made all things pertaining to this earth by assignment from the Father. Christ came down to earth and took upon himself flesh that He might carry out the great atoning sacrifice for mankind. Darkness is equal to wickedness. Wicked people don't comprehend or understand the light of the Gospel that Christ brought into the world.
For the benefit of one of your other respondents, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is founded upon Jesus Christ with prophets and apostles to guide and direct the affairs of Christ's church. We rely upon the rock of revelation to direct the affairs of the Church. Personal revelation is paramount to the members of the church for personal testimony and knowledge of God's will for each of us. By the Power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.

I love the verse that says "All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing that was made." For some reason that has always stood out to me. However in reading it just now the part that says "and the life was the light of men.
And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not." really struck me too. I think it's that I read it like this, He created everything, therefore He created life - He created something from nothing. And that His Light, the Light of Christ is in us, in Man. And that His Light can shine in us to the point that the darkness can't comprehend it. Not that the darkness can't see it, just that it can be so brilliant and so bright that the darkness can't comprehend it. It makes me think of the anti's who are on here and how they just can't comprehend the simplicity of the Gospel. They can see it in action, they can read about it, but because they have not eyes to see, or ears to hear, they can't understand it.

Take Energy, It has no beginning and no end.., It has always been here and it will never die... God has always been here and will never die...In the Beginning, was of Our Creation and God Spoke Words and His Words Manifested, so he was synonymous to words...He was giver of life, so he is life and even light has life... It's all one... God is- Energy, Love, Life, Light, Word and the beginning and the end... He has always been here and always will, even if nothing else exits , He Will! Also If you are in a Dark Room and Light a match you can see that lite, But If a room is all bright , do you notice a dark spot? No because Lite can consume Dark but Dark can not consume lite... That's the best stab at it I can Take...

One of my favourites.
If you are LDS, you could look this up in the Sunday School manual for this year - or talk to your seminary teacher. They will explain all the ins and outs. Basically, it means that Christ is the Word of God, that he was with God at the beginning, that Christ created the earth and all things in it. The light and dark is spiritually speaking.
Is that what you are looking for?

Joseph Smith totally changed everything:
Originally KJV:

1 John 1
1That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;

2(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)

3That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

4And these things write we unto you, that your JOY MAY BE FULL.
Joseph smith took the JOY out of the end of the scripture and starts talking about darkness, whats up with that tranlation???

What a spectacular verse, certainly one of my favorites. The "ye would desire to press forward with a steadfastness in Christ," section helps me undergo in recommendations that I could DO something, and the "having a suited brightness of desire, and a love of God and of all adult adult males" section tells me this form of recommendations-set I could have - a hopeful one, with love. and then of direction there is the promise that if we try this by employing "feasting upon the word of Christ, and bear to the tip" we can return to our Heavenly Father and have everlasting existence. staggering!

the scriptures are sweet to me.
It's nice to be able to get my scripture reading done without having to pick up a book. I read half an hour a day most days.
This just knocked out 2 minutes for me. Good stuff.

Yes, that is John's gospel that proves Jesus Christ is God.
And the word became flesh and dwelt among us. John 1:14.
Do you believe Jesus Christ is God the 2nd person of the
Trinity?
