I looked into the army and they said they don't have it anymore, that it is a civilians job. What other branches have a program for firefighting that I can get into?

the AF is the only branch that has a FF program that is remotely similar to the civilian world. All other Branches use Civilians on their bases, and the Navy's DC is more about keeping ships afloat by any means necessary, not just putting out fires.

However, getting a slot is difficult at best, as it is is overmanned.

From what I've heard, the Air Force has the best Fire Fighter program.
Everyone in the Navy learns firefighting skills although it is not their job. I am in the Air Force as an electrician that is taught CPR. That doesn't mean I'm a medic.

It seems that all the services are using contractors or are moving to contractors. I think the army still has a limited group. If you wanna come over to Iraq as a civilian firefighter check into Wackenhut Services LLC.

You should look into the flight deck firefighting crew on a carrier for the navy. You're right there where the action is and you get flight deck pay. If you're interested in it, ask a navy recruiter about the ABH rate which is directly involved with the flight deck crash crew.

So the Army doesn't have fires?
Somebody misinformed you, every service branch has MOS' for firefighters. Fire is universal, and we don't allow civilians access to most military installations.
Sounds like a recruiter was trying to steer you into a critical MOS instead of what you want.

All branches have a firefighting program but it is not a stand alone job. Instead it is additional training as part of another job.

The military trains all varieties of scores for hearth scuffling with. it rather is needed for crews to have the potential to combat fires on a deliver, maximum of of the group are firefighter as a 2d job. The military is rather cool in case you get a sturdy job. ward off the unmanly jobs, the different enlisted workers like to tear on the adult adult males who dont have the "sturdy" jobs.
