Tell him that for a number of different reasons, you are certain that the two of you could never be compatible, but for the sake of the friendship you wont burden him with a list of those reasons. Of course since he's needy and egotistical, that wont be good enough, but stay firm and leave it at that.

Please do not date this man, it will only get worse. People like this can not take no for an answer, you will end up being forced into doing and feeling things that are not in your character.
Be care of people like this, it will not make for a good relationship even thought the chemistry seems to be right. That is only a false sense of need on your part, he is filling a void in your heart that will only end up hurting you in the end.
It will leave you broken and a shell of the person you once were and you will feel like you are empty.

I am in agreement with Midnight`s answer.
If you are already dating, you will have to tell him also that you do not like the fact that he always wants attention and you feel he is just using you and you are not going to go out with him anymore.
He does sound like he would be the kind of guy that will take it bad. So tell all of your friends, just to make sure they know that you are not going to date him anymore.

Just like that: "We have good chemistry but we should not date. I don't like you enough." Don't be too nice to a person like this - they will not take no for an answer unless you are very clear, and if you're nice, they could end up stalking you. Good luck.

You should tell him that you have alot going on and you've come to realize that you really don't have time for a relationship or for dating and that sometimes you feel alot of tension between you guys so right now isn't the right time for you.

omg i have THE SAME problem. its so annoyinnggg. does he talk to you all the time? run up your text bill like crazy? yea except another one of my problems is he IS a player. but i can't think of anything to say to be nice either. so im interested to see other answers.
just try not to keep total conversation going like it was before he got creepy. but dont completely ignore because then they start to spaz out a little bit.

yea he sounds like a major jerk. And i think he is also fake and you don't wanna date a guy who has a different personality in front of his friends and then acts like a player when hes not wit them cuz both sides suck.
