Well he was no good guy, but he wasn't stupid either. And the person above me is an idiot.

That doesn't sound right.
As the history books say, Hitler left Austria for Bavaria at the time because he wanted to live in a 'real German city'. By doing so, he avoided conscription into the Austro-Hungarian Army. He didn't want to be in their Army.
He was eventually arrested by the agents of that particular military but quickly deemed unfit for service after a physical test and a plea - yes, it looks more like he weaseled out of it than anything. He only joined the German Army later on when World War 1 broke out, and only after petitioning local Royalty to let him join.
Was he a genius? Who knows. He certainly was ambitious, I'll give him that much.

Quite correct, but he failed the physical test not the I.Q. test his deferment paper stated " Unfit for Combatant and auxiliary duty, too weak. Unable to bear arms."
Prelude to this event:
Failing to answer the original call up for duty notice in 1909 (he was effectively what today would be called a draft-dodger) by the Austrian Military.
Hitler went to visit his brother living in Liverpool, England in the late Autumn of 1912, he returned shortly to Vienna, Austria, where he celebrated his 24th birthday on April 20th 1913.
On May 24th, 1913 he left Vienna for Munich, capital of the German State of Bavaria, where he was registered as "in residence" two days later.
The Austrian Authorities learned he was living in Munich, on January 10th, 1914 they were given his exact address by the Munich police, and to that address they sent a summons asking Adolf Hitler to present himself for military service at LINZ in Austria.
With the help of a lawyer Hitler was able to convince the Austrian authorities, at the Austrian Consulate in Munich, it was not entirely his fault that he failed to attend the original call up appointment.
In July 1914 Adolf Hitler petitioned the Bavarian King Ludwig III requesting the permission of an Austrian Citizen to join a Bavarian Regiment. This was subsequently granted and Adolf Hitler on August 16th joined the ranks of the 1st Company of the 16th Bavarian Reserve Infantry, known from its original Commander, Colonel List, as the List Regiment.
He was number 148 in the company and live in Oberwiessenfeld Barracks and much of his training took place on the Exerzierplatz in Munich where he was marched and drilled given bayonet practice and taught to use a weapon.
About two weeks later the regiment commenced its training at Lechfeld, seventy miles to the west of Munich, there on October the 8th he took the oath to King Ludwig III of Bavaria.
On October 21st Hitler's Regiment went off to war.
