yes whiskers affect the balance of a cat, many years ago, my kid neighbour (I think) cut my cat's whiskers off and he was walking into walls and was all over the place. So don't even try it. And to Karen S, Idiot's like you are useless. You are definately uselessto this webpage and probably are useless to many other sectors in life. Ha, lets cut out your "useless" eardrums and see how your balance would be, since that is the 'HUMAN" equivilant. Hope this answers your question;-)

The whiskers are 'Feelers' for a cat. They use them for telling what's around them in the dark (like corners and such.) Their tails are for balance. But that brings up another question: How does a manx (a special breed born without a tail) have balance? HMMM.......

Cats whiskers don't affect their balancethe tail does. The whiskers go out further than the face so if they go close to wall (just as a example) or if they go blind they use them to feel how much further or if they are about to hit the wall. So they pretty much protect the face

The one of the reason why they have whiskers. So for when they want to go in somihing. There whiskers are about as long as the longest part of there body. So they know that if there whiskers don't make it through they cant go in. It's true i read it in a book.

And just why would you want to do that? No,it doesn't affect their balance. Notice how they are just a bit wider than the body? They served a purpose to keep them from getting wedged into things....prowling looking for food in the wild.

No it does not, that is a myth.

Whiskers are not involved in maintaining balance. They are used to judge distance and size when an animal is moving around.
