i plan on loving this animal with all of my heart because it would be impossible for me not to. and he is getting "fixed" before he even comes home with me, it is part of the total cost for him so the breeder gets it done before he come home. but thank you guys, you all are helping, MORE ANSWERS WOULDNT HURT THOUGH

No, you should not feel guilty. You made no mistake. That cat in Illinois needs you as much as a shelter kitty does. Love and enjoy your new cat, and when you are a few years older or have a place of your own, you can add to your family with a shelter cat.

No, don't feel guilty. You're going to work at a shelter and do great things!
I'm not generally in favour of paying breeders when there are so many animals in shelters BUT. I've never had my own dog, so I'm going to get my first from a breeder. I want my first one to be from a puppy. After that, I plan to rescue dogs and cats for the rest of my life, but I'm allowing myself that one!
Better this cat goes to a good home. I'm pleased you at least have an awareness of the concept of shelter animals vs. breeders - I say, no guilt. You're miles ahead of most people on here, in the morality stakes!

Well I don't think you should feel guilty. Think of it this way; once you're on your own you can get as many cats as you like, and volunteering at the shelter is already wonderful. The lady, if she couldn't get rid of the cat, would most likely take it to the shelter anyways, so in a way you are saving one from the pound.
Honestly you seem like a pet lover and want to help everyone, like I do, but unfortunetly you can't (tear). Just keep volunteering!!

Whether you should feel guilty or not doesn't matter because you do. Everybody makes mistakes and the fact that you feel remorse is key. Volunteering to help homeless animals is a good deed and will make you feel good. It would be a good idea to recruit a friend to volunteer with you. Then you are doing twice as much for the homeless animals. You should also do a little drive for the holiday season to collect soft bedding and toys for shelter cats.
Just remember how you feel and forgive yourself. The important thing now is to stick to your desire to help homeless animals.

Take the kitten, take good care of it, get it vaccinated and spay or neuter it and keep volunteering for the animal shelter. Being a good pet owner and not contributing to the problem by letting your cat breed is the most important thing. This kitten needs a good home too.

If you realized you might have made a mistake, it was a learning experience. It's a done-deal so you may as well just let it go. Sounds like you're on the right path if you're volunteering at a shelter. You should feel better when you get your new cat & you can give it lots of love.

you cannot save them all as much as that would be nice. working at a shelter may help or hurt. if you are the type that will get too attached and not be able to let them go then it may not be for you.
