I mean people on here don't know what type of life style they are living and what type of dog would be best for them. I think those people just really want a dog to use as an acessory and those are just all the wrong reasons to buy a dog. There are just too many dogs out there that were chosen just because they were cute, and then end up in the pound. Why can't people do more research about dog breeds? What do you think?

Emmarrr :] I totally agree! I have noticed that as well. People are prejudiced and claim their dog breed is the best! It is also not hard to look up a list of breeds and do research. You could get a lot of false information from people on here anyway. Only real dog lovers would take the time to dig deep and do research.

Exactly. Choosing a pet is a personal thing. I just want to get the point across that there are many things to consider when choosing a dog. And the people who ask what type of a dog to get don't really go beyond that "cuteness" or size of a dog. It's so much more than that.

It annoys me that people ask the opinions of strangers on the internet without doing any research on their own at all. If you aren't committed enough to do your own research what makes you committed enough to own a dog?

I think it shows the main problem folks out their have when finding a dog...they think it can be summed up quickly or that puppy stuff should be easy or simple. Hopefully this is just a first stop on the way to choosing, not the end of the thinking process. I much rather they ask before they get the dog then ask after if their dog is "normal". It doesn't bode well if they are in trouble or having "training problems" after having a new puppy for only a few days.

Not at all. Most people who come on here are doing so out of idle curiosity and / or entertainment. I think that those who ask this type of question are looking for a starting point for their research..No one is going to take the opinions of strangers as gospel truth. What does get on my nerves are those who have no lives and worship their dogs . This type of person spends hours on YA and takes the whole thing very seriously. It is the only life they have and they think it makes them experts or something. They live to flout their imagined expertise and live for the chance to bash others and put them down. They love to self-righteously "educate" those they consider stupid and inferior. Heaven help those poor fools who don't walk their dog 6 times a day, those who work and don't spend every waking moment fawning over their dog , don't take their dog to daycare , or fail to run to the nearest emergency vet when their dog gets a hangnail.

i think if you get a dog as an acessory it is wrong but some people might just want ideas and go on looking. i have a purebred sheltie and love him so so so much. i have him in agility and hes doing great. i did get him from a responsible breeder. the first thing that attracted me to the breed was how cute they are but i wouldn't have bought him without researching and without knowing how smart they are and what a great personality they are known for. i'm sure that a lot of other people do the same but are just looking for a place to start

Totally. Because most of the people who answer are just going to tell them whatever breed they have, with no care as to whether or not that breed is going to fit into the asker's lifestyle. And that's exactly why so many dogs end up in pounds and shelters - people are too lazy to do any research and get a dog that they can't handle, don't like, has too much energy for them, needs too much grooming, is too aggressive, whatever.
People need to do some actual research before getting a living, breathing animal who's going to depend on them for everything for the duration of its life.

sometimes the question can be a little too opinion-oriented (like if they very simply ask what type of dog they should get and provide NO info about themselves), but no, it doesn't. at all really.
when we were hunting (and very seriously and avidly, might i add) for what dog to get, i'd simply ask people what kind of dog i should get. it's normal. they're people too. c:
the jump from someone asking what type of dog to get to insinuating that they're all just gonna abandon them anyway is insulting.
(though yes. they should adopt. but whatever. not the question.)
anyhoo, if you think they should just do more research, why don't you say the same thing about the majority of other questions asked? almost all these questions on here -- they can be answered through google too. and even more easily, since this is a more personal question.

I agree totally. The type of dog a person gets cannot be decided by someone who does not know the person. The choice of a pet is very personal, and something that only the person getting the pet can decide.

Most of them don't have the first clue about doing any research -- and it's not just dogs. It's birds, snakes, hamsters, you name it -- some people are too ignorant and/or lazy for words. They'll get a big dog and wonder why they've got so much dog hair on everything now -- or they'll get a bird and wonder why it makes so much noise.

yes! that's a decision that people should take by themselves and with others who live with them. i did exactly 2 years of dog breed research before i got my first pup. as long as you know what you want it shouldnt matter what others think. i do belive that any dog could be a good pet with the right amount of training

doesn't really annoy me, but they must know we are all going to say they type we own. Hard to tell someone what type dog they should get when we know nothing about them or their lifestyle. They need to get online and do research, go to dog show, talk to people the know who own dogs--all better options then asking strangers.

Not me....I'd much rather see people ask questions about a breed first, instead of getting one with no clue of what they are getting into, then asking here......"why does my brand x working breed of dog keep tearing up my patio, garden, house, even though I gave him a chewy toy?" I still think people need to do their own research and evaluation, but better the asking than the dumping 6-12 months down the road.
