Given the tactics terrorists use on Americans they capture, and given the fact that by definition, terrorists are NOT accorded rights under the Geneva Conventions, people sure seem to be intent on meddling in the way the military conducts business. I can guarantee you that anything and everything you have heard about the military doing--whether right or wrong--pales in comparison to the depravity and inhumanity displayed by our enemy. To those who disagree, I would suggest watching a clip of the Nick Berg beheading, four or five times in a row, then trying to find anything that the U.S. military has done that comes close to that kind of barbarism.

Sorry to say it but it isn't the end of the world if a prisoner doesn't talk.
When we stoop to their level we have lost all reason to fight them. When we give up our freedoms we have lost all reason to fight them.
Personally, I'm convinced that our way of life is a little better than theres, and is worth saving without lowering our values.

You get a Muslim you is friendly to our side to play the part of a prisoner. Then you put a bad guy into our friend's cell. When the two become friends, the bad guy will tell his friend of all the plans he had.

we should not, under any circumstances, torture. think about it. let's say that you were whisked away to guantanamo for no reason as per the patriot act and waterboarded. the people waterboarding you would demand information. if you did not know, you would say so, and they would continue, presuming that you are lying. this would continue until, to make them stop, you just made something up. thus, the information gained is absolutely useless. couple that to teh fact that it is grotesque and wrong and we find that there are better ways of interrogation (whatever happened to the lie detector?) that can be implemented.

I'd be satisfied with doing exactly what they do to our people when they get them. Eye for an eye. Beheading for a beheading. I don't want to hear anything about "sinking to their level", either. We are in a big messy dogfight here. We had better be the bigger, meaner dog or we are done as a nation.

Torture is ineffective in the stated goal of obtaining useful intelligence and it diminished our stature in the world. There is absolutely no legitimate reason for us to do it.
