Oh Christ. Why exactly have you allowed your cat to have kittens if you don't know what you're doing?!

Cats eat the placentas. If she still seems to be straining, you better get her to a vet asap. She may have a kitten stuck, or a retained placenta.

Get the cat and kittens checked by a vet in a couple of days. Get the cat spayed once the kittens are weaned.

She should eat it on her own. There's vitamins in it she'll need. This is the sack that was around each kitten and it's not used for anything once the kitten is born so back it goes to help nourish the mother.

Usually they eat it after they chew the cord off the kitten.

Leave her alone unless the placenta is stuck and suffocating the kitten that may be behind it. If you do pull it out do it carefully. It will take her time to get all of it cleaned up help if you want. They say that the momma eating the placentas is healthy for her. THERE WILL BE MORE THAN ONE PLACENTA BECAUSE THERE IS MORE THAN ONE KITTEN

Ok. First of all. You should NEVER EVER EVER let your cat get pregnant if you don't know what your doing. Now....

You don't need to worry about the placenta. Cats eat them. If she looks like shes still straining, take her to a vet asap. She could have gotten a kitten stuck, or a retained placenta.

I would wait another day and then take her to the vet but in the meantime call a vet and see if s/he would do a house call because you don't want the mother to leave the kittens.

Straining can cause prolapse:

Anal prolapses are small protrusions of the red mucosal tissue lining the rectum that usually occur right after a bowel movement. Rectal prolapse looks like a tube of tissue protruding from the anus. Colonic intussusception looks identical to rectal prolapse but the tube of tissue is actually the colon passing through the rectum in a "telescoped" manner.

It sound like a prolapsed oviduct. i recommend you get her to a vet asap as she would be waiting to die from bacterial an infection if not dealt with. I had a rooster that did this. I took her to the vet and that they bumped off it and placed her on antibiotics for 2 weeks. she substitute into nice afterwards.
