I want to lose a lot of weight fast and get in shape at the same time. What is the best way to go about doing this? I just got a gym membership so I can go whenever I want.
My friend's personal trainer put her on a weird diet I may try which is : a cup and a half of cottage cheese for lunch and saltine crackers with tuna for dinner, a protein shake at some point throughout the day and an apple whenever she wants. Thoughts?

The best and healthies diet I will list for you. It is important to maintain a good diet so you don't compromise your health. Damage done because of lack of nutrition is not worth a nice body. Some diet damage cannot be fixed. When you deprive your brain, the brain will take other body cells to convert to the elements that it needs. And the cells it takes are BRAIN cells. OOPS. I don't want to loose brain cells to have thin legs. But I would like to have both.

Also, a quick weight loss is usually a water loss and that loss will come back ASAP. You cannot loose FAT more than 2 to 3 pounds a week. Any more than that and you are loosing water and muscle mass (not good)

AND DON'T GO ON A DIET. DECIDE TO MAKE A LIFE CHANGE TO A HEALTHY LIFE STYLE.

1) fruits and veggies, all you want, organic, raw, vine-ripe if possible. Steamed is OK,sauteed is OK even canned or frozen is OK, but lots of them.
2) limited or no meat.
3) nothing fried
4) no FAST FOOD- is junk, no nutrition, empty calories
5) NO PROCESSED FOOD. if you can't pronounce it don't eat it.
6) nothing white, salt, sugar, mayo, milk, (or at least in moderation.
7) NO DAIRY-dairy is great for baby cows, your body does not even digest it properly. check out www.notmilk.com
8) EXERCISE- and be sure to refresh your body with water and fresh fruit
9) NO PROTEIN SUPPLEMENTS. Muscle is made from water, replace the water. You get enough protein from the food you eat, You get more protein from spinach than the supplements you take and your body does not get toxic on food protein the way it will with supplements. Supplements can really tax you liver.
10) Good supplement would be Omega 3, and B-12 and Juice Plus+

11) NO CARBONATED DRINKS, or at least limited. They actually dissolve the calcium in your bones.
12) Calories in calories out.

AND DON'T GO NUTS, MODERATION.

And the spell check would not work, so if I messed up please forgive.

That diet worries me in that it doesn't mention breakfast. There *is* something to the adage "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" as it kicks of your metabolic furnace.

The other thing that worries me is the lack of variety in the diet. The dangers of that are two fold: one- you're less likely to stick with something as regimented as that, and two- your body will quickly set a water mark and adjust it's processes accordingly, diminishing results as time goes on.

Look around the web or talk to a nutritionist for information on dieting appropriately. A good diet will provide you with GUIDELINES for what to eat and explain why, rather than give you a couple of meal plans and say "eat only these things".

You can do full liquid meal replacement.

A Slim-fast shake has about 35% of the daily recommended amount of most nutrients, they're 190 calories, so you can have three or four throughout the day. You need to take vitamins that have zinc and iron in them if youi decide to try it.

It's not perfect, but it allows you to get what your body and mind need to be healthy with a fixed amount of calories.

There are a lot of alternatives in terms of liquid meal replacement. Slim-fast is just one of them and does have 2.5g of sat fat and 18g of sugar.

It's easy to find, fairly inexpensive compared to the price of a meal and they taste pretty good

When you've lost the weight you want to lose go to two a day with one meal of regular food.

You won't lose weight by exercising alone - you have to burn (exercise) more calories than you consume (diet).

Good luck

Crunches alone won't cut it fast enough. You need to to do sit ups and leg lifts. The fat around your abs are the hardest to get rid of because they like it there, it stouborn. Just keep on with the addition of the sit ups and leg lifts and some cardio (30-45 min 4X/week) and you'll see some results.
