I was a Pharmacy Technician for 12 years, so I know a little about this.

There are two basic career tracks, Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician. To be a Pharmacist you need a degree which typically takes 5 years of college.

To be a technician you typically need to get a certification from a vocational or technical school which takes about 4-6 months depending on the schools curriculum. In some states no training or license is required but the wages tend to be much lower.

A Pharmacist can easily make 50-60k annually out of school, and much more over a short period of time. A 6 figure income is possible if you stick with it.

A technician makes upwards of $10 and hour, with about $12/he being pretty average. Some states require pharmacy techs to be licensed, which provides a slightly higher income.

Pharmacy technician is what a lot of people do 1st when entering the pharmaceutical field. It only requires about 8 months of school with about 160 hours of externship. If you like it then you can decide to become a pharmacist or another type of pharmacy technician. You can also work in a retail pharmacy (CVS, Walgreen's), or work in a hospital or clinic. There's many options in the Pharmacy field.
