Hi, well basically my dog...we already know hes dieing (sp?)

Hes had thyroid cancer for a long time now, and it started really effecting him recently.

Hes lost like 50 pounds, hes all boney and skinny now.

And lately hes really been scaring me.

He just lays around and wont move no matter what. You can kinda nudge him, or even show him his favorite ball that he likes to play with....and he still wont move.

Today he wouldnt even eat his can of food i gave him....and he has ALWAYS eaten his canned food, its like his fave, but today, he didnt even touch it

I have accepted the fact that he is dieing, and that he may not have much longer (we may even end up putting him to sleep)

But no one is home today, i got out of school early, and im here all alone, and im super, super worried...i dont want him to die when no one else is around cuz...i dont know what to do to be honest

Do you think hell be ok until my mom gets home?

oh, thats really sad..... i know your very worried, just keep him comfortable by rubbing his paws, stroking his fur on body and face, theres not much you can do since hes inactive, but just be with him..hopefully he wont pass b4 your mom gets home, im sure he wont, just be sweet caring and attentive towards him and try sprinkling water in his mouth and saying his name......hang in there!

Losing a pet can be tough, particularly if it's been a long time coming. Stay with your dog, curl up and watch tv with him, pet and comfort him as much as you can. When your mom gets home, you need to take him to the vet and talk to the vet about what you should do, and discuss whether putting him to sleep is the best thing you can do for him.. Often, it comes time to help your pet to pass quietly.

I know it's hard. Do you know the number of the vet? Or can you call your mom? You could always call the vet's ofice and ask the receptionistif you could talk with the vet (or even her) about how your dog is doing.

It might sound silly, but talk to your dog abouot all the good times you had together - it will help you feel better too. I lost my shep when I was 11 - she had always been there for me and I was crushed when we had to put her to sleep. I found the cat after he passed curled on top of the dryer (he always loved the heat and motion), so I've been there.

I'm sorry....you know life is eternal and that your dear pet will be a spiritual being forever....even before the pup and after the old dog...he loves you and always will....
I would cover him with a blanket, so you can still give him
little sips of water, his mouth is dry so just dribble a little on his tongue and let him swallow if he can.
Why don't you put on the radio and just lay down on the floor with him, cover you both....you're his best bud and you can think of this all, as hard as it is, that you get to share his time....when they get old and pass away at home, they don't go thru alot, they just quietly go.
It might be scary right now, but you'll be grateful someday that you are with him....don't be afraid.....the change called death is natural. Tell him about all the times he made you laugh, silly things he did, and sing him a song.....good luck ...
wish I could come sit with you.
You'll be ok and so will he...give him a hug for me too.

If you can, wrap him in a blanket, and hold him. If he has gotten that thin, he needs the warmth. Just stroke his head and kiss him and talk to him. Comfort him. Tell him what a good boy he is. Try to feed him his food from a spoon or even from your fingers, a little at a time. Call your mom and tell her how you feel. You should not have to go through this alone. Can you call someone to come over and be with you? If there isn't anyone, at least call the vet...you need someone to talk to, even if they can't do anything.

It sounds like it would be kinder to the dog and to you to have him put to sleep. Talk to your mom about it when she gets home, and tell her how upsetting this is for you. I'm so sorry, hon. :-( (((hugs)))

I feel for ya. It's hard and scary. You spending time with him is the best thing. He needs the attention. Yes he's probably in pain but at this point since there is no one to help you take him to the vet the only thing you can do is what you're already doing.
Sometimes we as humans are selfish and want the animal to stay alive but we do not know how much pain they are in.

I was in the same position you were last year. We decided to take our Nikki to the vet to have her put to sleep and my dad just couldn't do it so he drove the longest way possible to the vet and when he got there she had already died. He felt a bit better because it wasn't him saying to end her life but all in all, it needed to happen. She was better off.

Good luck to you and your furry friend. Take Care.

well, I am really sorry that you are home along with him. Keep him warm. Give him a blanket that you warm in the dryer for a minute or 2 and then put another on top of that to hold in the heat. When your family gets home, I hope you will get them to call the vet......It sounds like his quality of life has reached a very low point and they need to talk to the dr about options available.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. I just hope he isn't in any pain. Just stay with him, talk softly to him and call the vet to see what they want you to do. If he's suffering the best thing you can do is have him put to sleep. It's a really hard decision, but it would be the right thing to do to stop his pain. Until your mom gets home, like I said, just talk to him and pet him. Tell her to call the vet asap.

You sound like your doing all that you can to comfort him in his time of need which I am sure he has done for you many times throughout his years. He is greatful for your love and companionship you are giving him in his last days on earth and just keep doing that till he leaves you. Then remember all the good times you have had. I hope your family comes home soon to helpyou with this but be his rock right now. Good luck and god bless.

Just be with him, if he decides to pass away before everyone else gets home, doesn't mean he'll go without anyone near him. You'll be home.

Sounds like euthanization might be ideal. Is he getting up at all, to go potty or anything? Sounds like he no longer has any quality of life if his food & toys no longer interest him. Does he at least still wag his tail when someone approaches him?

Just stay with him as much as you can and keep petting him.. let him know he is loved.. that is the best thing you can do for him right now

When your mom gets home, you should discuss putting him to sleep soon, so he doesnt suffer anymore

Calm down. If something does happen, the best thing would be to notify your mom and get her opinion. Do not panic. Just get a hold of someone that knows what to do.
