I am not an atheist.

I think that some religious people are truly deluded for a number of reasons.

Is the fact that some of them think you are here because you are seeking God another form of delusion.

I am asking if people thinking you are here because you seek god are just deluded.

It is quite deluded. I was once a Christian, and fell from that religion because--to be blunt--it makes no logical sense. I then studied several other religions in an attempt to find one that matched how I felt... or at least didn't contradict itself (the truth never is contrary to itself). Nothing fit. It was then that I examined the very idea of a God, Creator, or at the very least, protector. Nothing survived critical analysis. Hence, I became an Atheist.

I have said this repeatedly to deaf ears here at YA, and I'll say it again here. Please understand that I know you are not the owner of said "deaf ears"--you are a dear friend, and have been very open-minded to hearing my and other views. No, this is for YOU, Dear Reader:

I am here because--while I myself am an Atheist--religion continues to invade my life. As a three-time cancer survivor, I find it very angering that the one treatment that holds the most promise (embryonic stem cells) cannot even be researched to any great level because of other people's religious beliefs. I hold a great level of frustration because many of the Christian faith see our schools and government offices as Christian recruiting stations. I feel annoyance whenever a stranger visits my house peddling his or her religion with that air of smug supperiority. It's that same supperiority complex that makes me grind my teeth everytime someone is pretentious enough to tell me that I'm going to THEIR imaginary place of punishment (Hell) for not buying into THEIR fairy tale. Nausea hits everytime I hear that yet another religious group is picketing the funeral of a homosexual with hateful and arrogant signs, chants, and harassment. That same nausea annouces itself when I hear that someone's marriage isn't recognised in the state they currently live in... again, because of someone else's religious beliefs.

Those who claim to follow a God of love--yet show no signs of love themselves--are the reason why I, and other Atheists, frequent this forum. They are also the reason why we fight so hard to keep religion in the homes and churches of those who practice it... and off the front lawns of those who don't.

I don't know if they think that as much because they're deluded... I think people who say that say it because it's just the sort of thing that they like to tell each other. It makes them feel superior.
In some cases, it's more delusional. Those are the people who can't wrap their brains around the fact that people really, truly, do NOT believe that there is a God, so they start making up things like "you're only talking about religion because you're really looking for God", or "you're just angry at God", and other things like that.

I am a Christian who does not think all Atheists are here because they are seeking God. I think many are here because they have a bone to pick so to speak with the way they were raised or in dealing with someone in their life that was some sort of raving lunatic Christian. The best way for them to take it out on their past feelings is to come on here and insult people of that belief. I believe a smaller percentage really feel that religious folk are impeding humankind's technological process and upset we would be farther along had religion died out a long time ago. Just my take on it. Gods peace :)

I have no idea if there are any atheists here who are really trying to snuggle up to a deity. I think it's unlikely, but I have no way of knowing.

I'd say that anyone who IS, is ipso facto hardly an atheist.

It's plain that some theists here take great delight in the notion - especially those who consider themselves 'ex-atheists'. But I don't think they WERE atheists - just theists who hadn't found their special fantasy yet.

What I truly do know is - I'M not here looking for god. I'm entirely convinced there isn't one, and I'd cheerfully bet my life on it.

Yes, people who think I'm here because I seek a god are deluded. People who think that my use of the word "God" means I believe in him/her/it are deluded. People who think I hate any god are also deluded.

I think some "religious" people here just use this place to spread their own agenda and are not out to be "helpful" to anyone. For this reason, I don't believe there are too many atheists looking for God in this place. It just seems like this is a place people use to relieve boredom or escape from real life.

There are people out there who say, "Do everything in the glory of God". They're saying that everything they do is for a religious purpose, and whether that's true or not, it's at least their ideal.

Since they do everything for a religious purpose, they imagine that's what everyone else does. "Everything that is done is done in the context of religion. Therefor, atheists are seeking God when they go on the Internets."

If there are people here who truly think that, then yes. I do think they're deluded... in a number of different ways.

I am not really seeking god, in the same way I am not actively seeking dragons, mermaids or unicorns.

If someone wants to ante up some real evidence then I will review my position.

Strangely enough the consensus seems to be that the people who believe in dragons, mermaids or unicorns are delusional because of the lack of evidence to support their existence.

But those who do not believe in gods, because of exactly the same lack of evidence, are claimed to be the delusional ones while the believers are perfectly rational. (Or so they claim.)

What a joke.

Absolutely... for them to believe that we are truly here seeking the word of god is amazingly delusional.

I guess in a way I am no better than them in the fact that I am just trying to show them the folly of their ways ;)
